Position Overview

Are you ready to tell our story on paper and on camera? Can you get an audience to take action and teach them something at the same time? Goodwill of South Central Wisconsin is seeking a public relations professional who will bring passion and presence to our traditional and social media activities. If you can write it, pitch it and deliver it on-demand, if you have a solid track record of getting others to share your stories, and if you want to work for an organization that changes lives, this could be the role for you.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serve as primary writer for internal communications and external marketing collateral.
  • Deliver brand messages and stories via written content, media relations, social media partnerships and community engagement. Be the on-camera, on-air, on-line, in-person and behind-the-scenes bearer of the Goodwill SCWI brand.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining a portfolio of stories about Goodwill of South Central Wisconsin and the people we serve.
  • Advance community interest in and knowledge of the Goodwill of South Central Wisconsin brand by generating positive media coverage in our markets.
  • Deepen consumer engagement through social media presence; in collaboration with the digital strategist and full marketing team, create and present new content, maintain and build external influencer partnerships.
  • Work closely with the Goodwill SCWI CEO and leadership team to support a deeper staff understanding of our mission, strategic goals, values and local programs/services. Draft written materials and message points for internal presentations.
  • Coordinate and facilitate media interviews for CEO or other staff; includes preparation of talking points, mock interviews, establishing ground rules and managing media.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with a variety of market media contacts.
  • Write and distribute press releases and news alerts.
  • Coordinate and manage responses to media inquiries.
  • Maintain the organizational media database and earned media report.
  • Coordinate and manage coverage and media participation at Goodwill events.
  • Serve as point-person to coordinate crisis communications activities.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English or related field required.
  • Minimum 3 years work experience in a public relations role; established market knowledge and portfolio of media contacts preferred.
  • Current experience developing social media content; extensive knowledge of platforms, trends and tools.
  • Must possess excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, electronically, over the phone and face-to-face. On-camera experience a plus.
  • Outstanding public speaking skills; experience with large and small group presentations required.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license for 5-10% local travel.
  • Position is full time; occasional evening or weekend assignments may be required.
  • Starting salary:  $50,000 annually plus full suite of benefits

Scope Data: 14 County territory with the strongest outreach in Dane County
