
JMP Solutions runs on the skill and expertise of our people. The role of Electrical Designer within our Calgary office comes with a variety of different responsibilities, interacting with the team, clients and supporting project execution from a design perspective.
What Would a Typical Day Look Like?
Responsible in various elements of design for our automation projects. Including:
- Preliminary electrical control system design development and costing
- Review of facility electrical drawings, plot plans, and P&ID to generate automation and electrical designs
- Prepare and review electrical engineering calculation and drawings including Electrical plans, electrical load list, single line, Area classification, Motor control schematics, voltage drop, lighting calculation, Arc flash studies, Device coordination, power distribution, panel design, I/O drawings, junction boxes, power, grounding and instrumentation layout drawings, cable schedules, network diagrams
- Review and approve electrical equipment specification and data sheets, including transformers, switchgear, MCC’s, protection relays, motors, generators.
- Develop complete system Bill of Materials
- Prepare and review engineering work packages for construction
- Electrical system testing and support – getting hands-on if necessary
Project Management
- Managing portions of projects as assigned:
- Assist with scoping, quoting, and budgeting
- Materials specification and ordering
- Other general project management responsibilities as assigned
What Qualifies You for this Opportunity?
- An Electrical/Computer Engineer with 2-5 years’ experience in electrical and automation system design, electrical drafting, electrical codes and design calculations, incorporating PLC’s, HMI, RTU’s, SCADA, Networks, etc.
- Registration with APEGA as a P.Eng. or EIT, or the ability to pursue registration
- In-depth understanding and practical experience with CSA, CEC, NEC, IEEE, API and other accepted industry Codes and Standards
- Working knowledge with AutoCAD (2D and 3D)
- Working knowledge of SKM is an asset
- Working knowledge of ETAP is an asset
- Oil & Gas industry experience is a plus
- Excellent communication, presentation and writing skills
- A proven self-starter
