Position Summary

Reporting to Preconstruction Director, this position is responsible for leading the team on a variety of project types and delivery methods, bid day evaluations, pricing, as well as assisting other teams in estimate development. This person is known as the estimating expert on the team and can communicate reasons for cost fluctuations, scope differences, etc. to the team.

 

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field, or related experience

 

Years of Experience

  • 7 or more years of construction experience
  • On-site project experience as well as experience managing a team through the estimating process is preferred

  • Well versed in all systems and pricing (MEP, structural, etc.)
  • Ability to think creatively using an “outside of the box” approach to gain an edge over the competition
  • Able to sit with owners and effectively communicate project details during interview process
  • Create and prepare cover letter and bid clarification forms
  • Recognize problems and provide and implement solutions
  • Experience in Sage 300, On-Screen Takeoff, Microsoft Office, and other construction-related software preferred
  • LEED Accredited or general understanding of LEED principles 

Duties/Tasks

  • Prepare detailed estimate deliverables in a clear, concise, standard format
  • Lead estimating team through process. Communicate expectations to others as appropriate
  • Take responsibility for your work and others as appropriate. Providing immediate feedback to other team members
  • Effectively participate in presentation of costs to internal teams as well as the Owner/Architect team in a clear, concise manner
  • Prepare takeoffs and pricing on all scopes of work including clear concise clarifications for your work
  • Strategize with the team to understand how to make a project move forward. Develop understanding of various strategies for hard bids vs. negotiated projects
  • Track LEED costs as necessary for each project
  • Lead training for Henning standards, processes, construction techniques, pricing, etc.
  • Lead a variety of projects (types, sizes and delivery methods)
  • Develop project schedules for review by project team
  • Prepare conceptual estimates as required (including detailed clarifications, schedules, etc.)
  • Prepare complete bid analysis for all scopes understanding the additions or deletions to those scopes for a complete bid. Must have ability to explain these to anyone on the team so all can understand process for completing bid scopes
  • Lead buyout and subcontractor interviews
  • Experienced in all types of buyout
  • Utilize strategic relationships with local subcontractor community
  • Utilize relationships with owners and architects
  • Lead systems development, estimating standards and training program as necessary
  • Lead company development or strategic initiatives
  • Participate in sales presentations as required
  • Enhance company and project margin goals
  • Understand Preconstruction budget and plan team involvement accordingly
  • Understand funding sources, contract types, proformas, etc. and implications to costs as well as workforce and subcontractor utilization goals
  • Understand and develop program costs in addition to construction costs
  • Delegate effectively
  • Prepare general conditions and schedule for review by the project team (i.e. Project Manager and Superintendent)
  • Participate in continuing education as appropriate
  • Lead team to meet specific department and company goals
