JOB SUMMARY
 

The Vice President of Program Operations is responsible for senior-level leadership of a wide scope of operations, while providing services to diverse populations in a 16-parish area.  This position is responsible for planning and implementation of business lines designed to meet emerging community needs, and leveraging organizational assets to achieve fiscal success aligned with Volunteers of America’s mission.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directs and oversees all aspects of program strategy, planning and delivery. Provides leadership, guidance and innovation to ensure quality, integrity and continuous improvement of organizational programs and project management.
  • Defines financial needs and maintains budget parameters required to maintain a multi-million dollar budget.
  • Leads the implementation and review of programmatic aspects of the Strategic Plan and initiates steps to align staff roles, responsibilities and activities with organizational priorities. Articulates and establishes measureable goals, objectives, and metrics for assessing, reporting, and improving impact.
  • Participates in annual processes, such as budgeting, goal setting, and performance reviews. Develops and enhances the systems needed to gather internal and external organizational performance information and utilizes analytical metrics to assess and monitor results, improve performance and demonstrate organizational impact.
  • Serves as an ambassador, spokesperson, and high-profile organizational leader before a range of stakeholder audiences. Provides leadership in the development of inter-team communication while supporting staff during organization growth. Directs team operations by building functional excellence and fostering meaningful career development.
  • Working with the Resource Development team, participates in fundraising activities from idea generation to donor stewardship to proposal development to organizational promotion.
  • Expands and manages relationships with partner organizations from advocacy, association, public policy, philanthropy, research and other spheres. Ensures that the organization remains a cutting-edge innovator within the non-profit sector, adapting to new realities, incorporating new approaches, and expanding alliances and audiences.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

This position prefers the incumbent have a Master’s Degree in a Human Services discipline, or a Master’s Degree in Business Administration with a Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services discipline. 

The ideal candidate should have 10-15 years of experience leading a dynamic and complex organization in the non-profit sector; be a seasoned leader with demonstrated success in management and strategic direction; have significant business and stakeholder relationship building experience; and be able to persuasively communicate complex concepts and programs at the highest levels of business.

The incumbent must have demonstrated skills in leadership, organizational development, people management, program and resource development, fiscal accountability, and public relations; must be a self-initiator, versatile and assume risk with responsibility; have a strong strategic vision in areas of business and the programmatic arena with a solid understanding of the human service industry

The successful candidate should be able to manage multiple projects, separating mission critical from the non-strategic; and be able to work independently with minimal supervision, or as part of a team. Excellent communication skills and proficiency in using a personal computer are also required.
