Career Opportunity at the Washington Pavilion for DAPA Program!

The Washington Pavilion welcomes more than 400,000 visitors every year and serves thousands more through our educational and outreach programming. We seek a dynamic, energetic and innovative educational professional who will be responsible for the leadership and growth of the organization’s educational programs and someone who wants to join a positive, fast-paced employment culture.  Our quality offerings include the Action Arts and Science Program -- one of 12 programs in the nation recently recognized by the First Lady as a National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award winner.  This award is the nation’s highest honor for creative youth development programs in the United States.

Choreographers for the Dakota Academy of Performing Arts (DAPA) Program serve as key members of the team to create, teach and implement age-appropriate choreography for a variety of musical numbers. Currently we have 2 part-time opportunities for Choreographers to bring their talent to the Washington Pavilion to be a part of DAPA. Hours vary depending on the Summer Camp schedule and other programs throughout the year, hours and pay will be discussed during the interview process. 

What you will do!

  • • Choreographers are responsible for the safe & proper conduct of actors, performers, participants, technicians and staff for production and safe & proper use of Washington Pavilion facilities
    • Create, teach, and implement age-appropriate choreography of a variety of styles for all assigned musical numbers
    • Assist the Director in realizing artistic decisions related to the production and the communication of that vision to the actors, technicians, and all staff involved with the dance rehearsals and 
  •   production process
    • Attend production conferences and assist in developing rehearsal schedules with the help of the production team
    • Work with Director to conduct auditions and aide the process of selecting actors
    • Attend and lead rehearsals as assigned
    • Engage students in innovative rehearsal activities that serve not only as preparation for final performance, but also as learning opportunities in line with best practices in arts education
    • Assists during production week as assigned
    • Maintain familiarity with emergency procedures and assist in implementing them when necessary
    • Represent the Washington Pavilion in a positive, professional manner
    • Execute the mission of the Washington Pavilion and the Dakota Academy of Performing Arts

What you will need! (Qualifications)

       • High School Diploma or GED required
       • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Performing Arts, or related discipline preferred
       • One to three years in performing arts education and/or choreography experience required

       • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills
       • Manifest enthusiastic self-motivation
       • Inspire and motivate young people
       • Demonstrate the ability to develop, revise, and evaluate innovative choreography numbers/programs
       • Communicate effectively to a wide range of team members and audiences

       • Demonstrate knowledge and experience in program evaluation and teaching methodology

* Requires a valid driver's license

* Requires the ability to move throughout the entirety of the Washington Pavilion.
