At New Beginnings-APFV, we provide comprehensive, compassionate support and services to people affected by domestic abuse, sexual violence, stalking and human trafficking. This includes crisis intervention, legal advocacy, safety planning, individual counseling, housing advocacy, children's services, medical advocacy and information and referral to other relevant community resources.

Our goal is to build a domestic violence center in Walworth County to help serve the needs of our community.

About the Opportunity

New Beginnings-APFV seeks an experienced Advocate/Counselor to provide individual counseling for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and/or human trafficking. 

The Advocate/Counselor will serve as a victim advocate, providing services such as crisis intervention, safety planning and medical, legal and/or personal advocacy.

The Advocate/Counselor will have excellent communication and organizational skills with an ability to work with a diverse group and be a team participant.

The Advocate/Counselor must demonstrate professionalism with sound judgement and a high degree of responsibility. 

If you have excellent written and verbal skills, public speaking ability, fluent in Spanish, knowledge of trauma dynamics related to sexual and domestic violence then the Advocate/Counselor may be the position for you.

Responsibility

• Provide counseling from a trauma-informed, empowerment approach using evidence-based or evidenced-informed therapy models for survivors of sexual or domestic abuse and their families.
• When functioning as an advocate, coordinate emergency services for Spanish-and English-speaking victims and their families, including crisis counseling, safety planning, safe housing, medical advocacy, financial assistance, legal/criminal justice advocacy, follow-up contact, and information and referral to community resources.
• Identify victims eligible for state crime victim compensation, explain the program and assist with the required paperwork (in Spanish and/or English) for the victim to receive compensation as allowed by state law.
• Research effective methods for providing support groups for various priority populations including adult victims of sexual assault and adults who were sexually abused as children.
• Identify and/or develop curricula, group evaluation tools and screenings of prospective group members for support groups.

Requirements

• Agreement with Mission Statement and Purpose of New Beginnings-APFV.
• Master’s degree in human services field, such as counseling or social work. State certification required as a licensed professional counselor (LPC).  Minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a counselor.
• Knowledge and/or related experience with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
• Proficient in Spanish.
• Responsible to maintain required confidentiality.
• Must have transportation with liability insurance and be willing to drive for work related tasks.
• Available to work some evenings.
