A career as an Ironworker provides you the opportunity to physically change the world every day. You would begin this career as an Ironworker Trainee. At Eby Construction our desire is to expose you to all aspects of the construction industry with emphasis on the ironworker trade. You will learn skills to advance your knowledge and abilities as an Ironworker Trainee leading to a fulfilling ironworker career.
You will be required to learn how to work safe, following OSHA guidelines and company safety policies. Learning begins with working alongside experienced ironworkers. The skills necessary to complete rebar and/or structural and miscellaneous steel tasks are varied and challenging. Some of the tasks you will be learning are:
- Rigging, hoisting, connecting, aligning, bolt-up, welding and bracing structural and miscellaneous steel members.
- Cutting, rigging, hoisting, setting and wire securing concrete reinforcement materials.
- Operating and maintaining tools and equipment required for the task, including: ARC welder, wire-feed welder, grinders, quickie saw, rebar shear, porta-brand saw, cutting torch, chain falls, rigging, torque wrench, TC Impact gun, Hogan drill and hammer drill.
As an Ironworker Trainee you will experience physical demands and challenging working conditions:
- Standing and walking for long periods
- Climbing of stairs and ladders
- Bending, kneeling and twisting
- Lifting heavy loads on a frequent basis
- Working inside and outside in all weather and temperature conditions
- Dirty, dusty and occasionally muddy or slick conditions
- Vibrations from tools and moving objects
- Varying noise levels
- Working in cramped quarters and high places
Following an interview and job offer, you must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen and provide I-9 documentation which will be processed through E-Verify. You will be required to supply a starter set of hand tools to include a tool belt, hammer, 25’ tape measure, rebar pliers, wire cutters, wire reel, utility knife.
