The ideal candidate will have a strong record of accomplishment in developing a safety culture that delivers best in class resultsbuilding organizational safety talent and propelling the company to the front of the pack with their creative approaches to risk avoidance and problem solving. 

Polk Mechanical Company is expanding in DFW & Houston through a reputation for high performance and outstanding service. Now 17 years old, the company is continuing to set new milestones, and as a result is, adding new staff and raising the expectations of its team. We are looking for a Director of Safety & Risk Management who will execute hands-on leadership and administration of all things risk related, as well as participate with senior management and company principals in developing a structured and comprehensive framework for safety, risk management and business resilience.  

 

Organization Structure and Interfaces: 

Reports to: COO 

Primary Interfaces: Polk employees in both service and construction (including trade workers, service technicians, project management and supervision)as well as the executive team, operational unit managers and human resources team 

Direct Reports: Four sharp Field Safety Supervisors

  • Multi-location:  jobsite and office based business model with a large distributed workforce 
  • Pace:  constant changing targets and quick turnaround is essential due to shifting priorities, changing client needs and project specifications

Strong interpersonal skills and adept at employee relationsIdeal candidate can handle the wear and tear of a fast-paced environment with an advanced sense of urgency while dealing with a multitude of issues that tend to be more shades of gray than black and white. Coach and consult with front line forces on complex safety issues, interface with doctors and claims adjusters related to injury management and getting employees back to work, coach and develop safety team members to be best in the industry. 

Education Experience: 

  • 8-10 years relevant experience 
  • Bachelor s degree or equivalent combination of training and related experience 
  • Degree in Occupational Safety/Health is a plus 
  • Must have OSHA30 certification 
  • Professional Certification CSP or similar 

Experience: 

  • Directed OSH function at multiple facilities regionally and corporate-wide 
  • Managed subordinates achieving highly effective teams  
  • Monitored regulatory arena for new/changing regulations and rulemaking 
  • Communicated with all business units pertaining to OSH 
  • Conducted comprehensive audits 
  • Liaised among executive management, business units, and support groups 
  • Issued OSH directives and corporate standards 
  • Compiled metrics and KPIs for all business units 
  • Provided recommendations to executive management 
  • Appropriated budgetary resources 
  • Acted as a consultant to business units 
  • Provided support for business units during regulatory inquiries 
  • Conducted global, regional and divisional OSH conferences 
  • Oversaw workers’ compensation process 
  • Leads the companys safety program 
  • Assists in setting up and maintaining a safe jobsite and ensures ongoing compliance with safety rules and regulations at all locations 
  • Maintains an active incident management program including: 
  • Develop and maintain doctor relationships 
  • Interviewing and setting up clinic protocols for all projects across the region 
  • Interfacing with HR on employees returning to work 
  • Performs on-site audits to identify unsafe operations, risks and compliance issues 
  • Oversees and supports safety meeting implementation and documentation 
  • Serves as the company safety subject matter expert with clients, regulators and employees 
  • Develops and analyzes reporting to identify trends and indicators to help prevent future incidents 
  • Identifies, creates and conducts safety training for compliance with all safety requirements 
  • Develops and mentors job-site safety professionals 
  • Participates in relevant industry associations and forums
