Kennel Manager 

The Kennel Manager has the primary responsibility for the proper feeding, handling and care of animals admitted to and boarded by the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society. The Kennel Manager will manage kennel maintenance and security, financial management of the department, recruitment/staff selection,  hiring, training, scheduling, coaching staff and supervision. This person will also ensure the department provides high levels of service to co-workers & customers.

What you will do!

    • Establish and oversee proper admittance procedures for all animals for both day and night receiving.
    • Assist with rescue work of animals as needed; assess and care for animals.
    • Monitor and manage animal care on an on-going basis; perform walk-through inspections on a regular basis.
    • Work with veterinary personnel, if issue is medical, and at least one other kennel technician (preferably a Lead), if issue is behavioral, to make and follow up on decisions to euthanize animals. Assist kennel staff with animal care, responding to questions/issues that arise. Oversee transfer of animals to foster care. Follow and enforce SFAHS safety procedures; make sure MSDS information as maintained.
    • Oversee training; monitor and manage kennel staff; communicate and enforce SFAHS policies and procedures.
    • Provide on-going direction and support to staff, including regular performance evaluations.
    • Schedule personnel; review and approve time sheets for kennel staff.
    • Work with Executive Director on department staffing decisions.
    • Order supplies as needed; oversee supply inventory; conduct monthly supply inventory.
    • Oversee facility maintenance and security.
    • Go through mail, e-mails and voicemails daily; return calls and correspondence in a timely manner.
    • Oversee department financial management and compliance with annual budget.
    • Assure that department personnel provide high levels of service to co-workers and customers.
    • Ensure Kennel Department section of the Operations Manual is updated annually as needed.

What you will need!

    • AA degree or higher preferred, with 5 years of experience working with animals, and minimum 3 years managerial/supervisory experience

    • Must be able to work well with all types of animals, must be able to clean using bleach and cleaning products.

    • Must be able to deal professionally and tactfully with customers and staff at all times.

    • Must have good communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Proven supervisory skills.
    • Job includes major amounts of handling animals, including reaching, standing, walking, talking and hearing; moderate amounts of kneeling, stooping, crouching and feeling; some pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, fingering and repetitive movement.

Day shift FT position (salaried), will include weekend rotation included with this role, shifts/hours vary between 7am-4pm/9am-6pm. Must be 18 years or older.
