Purpose of the Role

The responsibilities of a Job Cost Accountant for Saunders Heath Construction, include, but are not limited to, the following: completing monthly owner pay applications; maintaining trade pay applications; tracking and reviewing receivables; reviewing and processing accounts payable; ensuring overall compliance with accounting policies and procedures; ensure overall contractual compliance; providing accounting support and training for construction site management team; and performing other related activities and duties as assigned.

 

 

Functions / Duties
 
  • Set up projects and upload budgets into the accounting system.
  • Prepare monthly billings to clients.
  • Monitor change orders from owners and subcontractors.
  • Understand contract terms and requirements.
  • Prepare reconciliations of billings to actual costs.
  • Verify and process subcontractor requests for payment.
  • Resolve subcontract queries efficiently and effectively resulting in the development of trust-based working relationships and communication with subcontractors.
  • Communicate non-compliance issues to subcontractors when needed. Actively coordinate in-house resolution when applicable.
  • Prepare and authorize timely payment to subcontractors.
  • Process project related trade invoices; verifying receipt of item or service, sales tax calculations, and appropriate authorization for payment.
  • Provide proactive and responsive internal and external customer service; always aim to exceed your customer’s expectations.
  • Use Tax compliance/Audits.
  • IOVD Audits.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities / Qualifications / Experience
  • Three years of construction project accounting experience OR five years progressive accounting experience OR a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • Ability to multitask and perform under pressure.
  • Experience with a document imaging and workflow system, (i.e. Image Now) is a plus.
  • Experience with CMiC and Textura is a plus.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office products with a demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to new technology.
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills are essential.

 

Physical Demands

The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with this position:

  • Spends approximately 70% of the time sitting, and 30% of the time either standing or walking while on the job.
  • Occasionally* lifts up to 15 lbs, when moving project binders, office supplies or files, and may stoop, kneel, crouch, and balance while performing these same functions.
  • Occasionally required to climb, crawl, stoop and negotiate ladders, stairs or other routes at and within project sites in order to fulfill duties.
  • Constantly uses verbal and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication as well as communication through automated devices such as E-Mail, telephone and radio.
  • Constantly employs eye, hand and finger coordination enabling the use of office machinery such as computer keyboard.
  • Constantly utilizes full scope of visual capacity to travel to project sites and observe/verify project progress in addition to operating automated office equipment.
