Join our growing team as a Client Accounting Services Associate to provide a variety of client companies accounting support services including bookkeeping, payroll, financial reporting, quarterly and year-end tax preparation and budgeting.  You will have the opportunity to service, support, manage and grow your own group of clients through your development. This is a year-round opportunity with a growing eastern South Dakota CPA and advisory firm!

Here are the key functions of the job:

  • Documentable experience and proficiency in the use of QuickBooks and QuickBooks Online (QBO)
  • Complete troubleshooting ability in QuickBooks and QuickBooks Online (QBO) for clients
  • Reconcile and monitor accuracy of various balance sheet accounts
  • Prepare year-end work papers and assist accountants with the year-end process
  • When applicable, process accounts receivable invoices (compute and prepare billings for services), monitor, and reconcile accounts receivable. Record payments of accounts receivable and prepare bank deposits.
  • Process miscellaneous cash receipts: record and code the receipt of cash transactions in the general ledger system, prepare bank deposit, reconcile cash receipts
  • Enter invoices into accounts payable system, route to appropriate person for account coding and payment approval, process, and mail payments of invoices 
  • Review statements from vendors and correspond with vendors in connection with their accounts
  • Track 1099 information, and annually issue 1099 forms to vendors and file with the IRS
  • Process payroll including review and entry of into payroll system, calculate payroll, monitor paid time off (PTO) hours, control payroll deductions, process federal tax deposits consistent with regulatory requirements
  • Complete and file all quarterly and annual forms: Form 941, SUTA forms, W-2 & W-3 form
  • Comfortable working with and for clients while working through the needs of the position
  • Utility player opportunities to assist with other areas of the firm like tax and audit work, as needed
  • Ability to work more hours during the annual tax season: January thru April 15th

Here’s what will get you noticed:

  • Must possess strong verbal and written communications skills and organizational skills.
  • Must be a self-starter who can work with minimal supervision but who can also work effectively on a team.
  • Associate degree in accounting or related business field.
  • Experience in bookkeeping/accounting work and payroll processing
  • Experience using QuickBooks and/or QuickBooks Online (QBO) is preferred
  • Excellent computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Experience with Thomson Reuters tax and accounting software a strong plus
  • Ability to accurately work under pressure in meeting transactional and reporting deadlines.
  • Must obtain and maintain all continuing education requirements for the position including current software versions.
  • Must commit to absolute confidentiality of client and office information.
