Title: Senior Technician/Crew Leader

Position: Full Time

Mears Group, Inc has an immediate opening for a Senior Technician/Crew Leader.

Travel Requirements

Expect to travel 4-6 weeks at a time, with one week off at home. Applicant must be willing to travel by airline. Per diem, travel and lodging costs, and hourly wages while traveling are paid by the company.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead a crew of 2-4 team members surveying underground pipelines to identify areas of concern, with over-all responsibility for the crew, equipment, production, data collection/transmission, and safety.
  • Conduct daily safety meetings and ensure field technicians follow safety rules and procedures at all times. This includes reporting all safety-related issues and concerns to their supervisor and ensuring that both safety and survey equipment is working properly and is well maintained. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided by the company.
  • Know required survey procedures and train field technicians when necessary.
  • Manage day-to-day field surveys, lead field technicians in data collection in accordance with project scope and assign daily tasks.
  • Coach and motivate field technicians, evaluate performance, and provide feedback.
  • Communicate regularly with client representatives regarding issues and progress.
  • Document daily activities, issues, and progress on the daily report.
  • Monitor and meet project goals and objectives.
  • Review collected data daily to ensure quality and compliance with procedures and project scope.
  • Review crew technicians’ timesheets for accuracy.
  • Treat all co-workers, business partners and land owners in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including the timely submission of accurate expense reports, timesheets and collected data, as well as ensure that crewmembers are also in compliance.

Work Environment

Must be able to perform physically demanding work for long hours outdoors and have the ability to work in different types of weather conditions in different types of environments.

 

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, stoop, bend, use their hands to grab, handle or feel, and reach with their hands and arms. This position requires the ability to walk up to 8 miles a day while collecting data and carrying a 30-pound backpack. This position also requires the ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.

 

Qualifications, Education and Experience

  • NACE CP1 certification preferred
  • Experience performing indirect inspections: CIS, Locating and Depth of Cover
  • Experience interrupting rectifiers
  • Experience managing field crews
  • Requires a high school diploma or GED
  • Requires a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work flexible shifts
  • Proficient in reading and writing

  • McMiller G1 or American Innovations Allegro Data Loggers
  • MS Excel and Outlook - intermediate proficiency
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. This role has significant customer contact.

Starting Wage

Wages will be negotiated based on work experience, certifications and skill level upon successfully passing the hiring requirements for Mears.
