As a member of the Finance team, the Financial Analyst is responsible for supporting the financial analysis and forecasting of the operating performance of the Cooperative. This position will also provide pricing review and support to the Product Management group. The Financial Analyst will also contribute to analyses include budgeting, debt, and other detailed scenario modeling.

Position description:

  • Participate in the company strategic planning process by providing appropriate data and information to Senior Leadership.
  • Support the creation, reporting and analysis of financial and operating metrics (monthly, quarterly and annual).
  • Participate as a key Finance team member in developing the annual budget and rolling 3-year projections.
  • Accumulate, organize and manipulate quantitative data to identify and explain trends, problems and their causes.
  • Provide analytical, quantitative and “what-if” financial modeling assistance in support of Company objectives in the areas of decision support and historical analysis.
  • Develop and deliver in a timely manner pro-active and insightful analysis of a variety of past and forecasted results to operating management.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly and annual financial analysis including, inventory, Member and Vendor sales and margin analysis.
  • Assist with various quarterly and annual analysis for Board and Finance Committee reporting.
  • Assist with annual Patronage analysis.
  • Develop financial models, conduct benchmarking and process analysis.
  • Perform special projects and analytics at the Corporate and Member level, provides and presents recommendations via written reporting, Board reporting and oral presentations.

Position requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university in Finance, Accounting, or Economics; 3 or more years of experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities; strategic think with strong business acumen and great attention to detail.
  • Advanced technical skillset: MS Excel, SQL, MS Access, MS PowerPoint, MS Word, and MS Outlook.
  • Demonstrated experience in modelling, applying data manipulation, data mining, and advanced analytical techniques, producing insightful and factual conclusions.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and how it applies to financial planning and analysis.
  • Proven success supporting business leaders and driving profitable growth, and a solid foundation in the practical application of financial forecasting, business planning and analysis.
  • Ability to challenge current strategies or objectives and propose alternative recommendations, as necessary, based on in-depth knowledge of analytical methods and approaches.
  • Ability to distill complex findings and concepts into key data-points and visualizations.
  • Knowledge of Cooperative structure and operations and wholesale distribution industry is helpful, but not required for this position.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to listen and converse in a clear and professional manner.
  • Ability to effectively present information both orally and in writing.
  • Excellent communication skills and a commitment to teamwork and building effective relationships.
  • Ability to write a verbal synopsis of financial status and activities.
