Position Overview
We are seeking a Shop Service Technician to join Coastline Equipment’s skilled team. This role involves performing complex diagnostics, service repairs, and maintenance on both customer and dealer-owned heavy construction equipment. The Shop Service Technician will work under the guidance of the Service Manager, Service Location Manager, or Shop Foreman, leveraging their technical expertise to ensure that all service tasks meet Coastline Equipment’s high standards for quality and safety. This role offers the opportunity to mentor the next generation of technicians while advancing personal technical knowledge through continuous learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnostics and Repairs: Conduct thorough diagnostics and service repairs on John Deere equipment and technology, ensuring all repairs meet Coastline Equipment’s quality and safety standards.
- Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to Service Technician Trainees and other Service Technicians to foster the development of future skilled professionals.
- Customer Support: Participate in customer clinics to demonstrate solutions, enhance client knowledge of equipment maintenance, and build lasting customer relationships.
- Field Service: Provide field diagnostics and repairs as necessary, maintaining a professional approach and client satisfaction.
- Documentation and Accountability: Maintain accurate and timely records of diagnostics, repairs, and service tasks, including work orders and billable time, to optimize operational efficiency.
- Continuous Learning: Engage in ongoing training and skill development to stay up-to-date with advancements in technology and equipment.
- Maintenance of Tools and Work Environment: Ensure tools, vehicles, and equipment are in optimal working condition, while maintaining a clean and organized work area.
- Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and regulations, ensuring a safe work environment for oneself and colleagues.
- Knowledge Maintenance: Keep up with updates on John Deere and competitive products to improve service quality and technical expertise.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years performing service repairs, with a demonstrated ability to meet performance metrics.
- Technical Skills: Expertise in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems for off-road, construction, or heavy equipment. Experience with diagnostic tools like Service ADVISOR™ is preferred.
- Toolset: Must possess a full set of tools required for the role.
- Team and Communication Skills: Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment and communicate professionally with customers, colleagues, and management.
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in diesel technology or related field preferred.
- Authorized to Work: Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with Microsoft Office and other computer applications is beneficial.
- Mentorship Experience: Prior experience mentoring or training junior technicians is a plus.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Physical Requirements: The role requires frequent lifting and moving of items up to 75 pounds. Must be able to sit, stand, walk, use hands to operate tools, and perform physical tasks such as bending, crawling, or climbing.
- Vision Requirements: Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color distinction are required for detailed work on machinery.
- Environmental Conditions: Work will be performed indoors in a shop environment, but field service work may also involve outdoor conditions and exposure to varying weather.
Compensation and Benefits
- Wage: $31.00 - $44.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
- Benefits (Post-90 Days): Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, and paid holidays.
