A BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER position available in the Charlotte, NC area for Garney Construction.

Garney Construction is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual to assist in spearheading our business development initiatives in North and South Carolina. The successful candidate will have significant water and wastewater experience and a deep understanding of the North and South Carolina markets. They will understand the technology and engineering involved in water and wastewater and will have a command of collaborative project delivery methodology. 

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • Establishes and maintains client contacts and develops business development strategy. Strengthens current business ties; coordinates meetings between clients/potential clients and technical or other key individuals.
  • Investigates and understands the internal business processes of potential and key buying personas and has the ability to discuss relevant business challenges for each.
  • Develops a robust and well-qualified lead bank of well-qualified Utility clients, government agencies, private clients and industrial clients.
  • Actively documents all prospect activity in accordance with Garney’s processes and methodologies.
  • Leadership in development and execution of regional / industry-specific marketing and branding plans, in collaboration with corporate marketing staff, including plans for local conferences, events, and industry networking
  • Works closely with Regional Managers and marketing to develop and execute strategies and new methods for introducing Garney to prospective clients.
  • Develops proposals for services in response to invitations to bid and leads proposal team from inception to completion. 
  • Works collaboratively with Garney team members to: strategize, present and demonstrate tailored solutions demonstrating Garney capabilities with multi-year business relationships.
  • Efficiently manages time to focus on the highest priority activities that increase work in our pipeline.
  • Identifies target pursuits in advance of advertising, including identifying best partnering options of engineering firms.

Minimum Qualifications & Characteristics

  • Possess and continually develop a technical understanding of customer’s business objectives.
  • 4-year degree in Engineering or Construction Management (or equivalent),
  • At least 5 years of diversified experience in water infrastructure specific programs/project management and strategic business development is preferred.
  • Experience with Design Build, Design Build Operate, CM@Risk and/or other collaborative delivery methods is required.
  • Strong work and personal ethics, self-motivated and results driven
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills
  • A proven record of successfully creating interest and intrigue for a technical product or service.
  • Consistently exceed expectations on meeting goals
  • Function well in a fast-paced, informal environment where constant change is the norm and the bar for delivering results is set high.
  • A team player that is comfortable with working without constant supervision.
  • Enjoy working with clients while understanding their diverse personalities and business needs
  • Willing to travel regionally

 

This person will work closely with our Regional Managers in addition to our marketing team.
