Summary

Under direction of the V.P. of General Construction, the Quality Control Manager is responsible for developing the quality control program, observation techniques, and ensuring that all construction activities comply with the Construction Quality Control plan.  The Quality Control Manager works closely with Project Managers, Project Superintendents and Subcontractors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential duties are those that an individual must be able to perform with or without reasonable accommodation.

 

  • Responsible for taking corrective actions as necessary to ensure conformance with contract requirements.
  • Inspects all work of subcontractors as well as any work performed in-house and ensures full compliance with contract requirements.
  • Inspects and monitors construction site on an consistent and on-going daily basis to ensure adherence to safety standards, building codes and plan specifications.
  • Monitor installation of plumbing, wiring, equipment and appliances to ensure that installation is performed properly and is in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Responsible for coordinating certification of affidavits for specialty inspections and other testing agencies as required.
  • Responsible for arranging additional construction inspections, as needed.
  • Certifies shop drawings, catalog cuts and samples and ensures that all documents are approved by the designer of record before submitting to the client.
  • Prepares and distributes daily Contractor’s Quality Control Reports.
  • Maintains submittals status register, shop drawings and materials register.
  • Responsible for issuing violation notices and stop-work orders, conferring with owners, violators, and authorities to explain regulations and recommend rectifications.
  • Measure dimensions and verify level, alignment, and elevation of structures and fixtures to ensure compliance to plans and codes.
  • Use survey instruments, metering devices, tape measures and test equipment, such as concrete strength measurers, to perform inspections.
  • Coordinate other construction inspectors, as requested.                                                               
  • Presents self in a professional manner, provides open and honest communication, and demonstrates respect to co-workers and customers.
  • Prepares special reports and correspondence as requested by the Project Manager.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 Qualifications

Education / Certificates / Licenses

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field, or related years of experience
  • Valid California Driver’s License with clean driving record.
  • Current Quality Control Management Certificate

 Experience

  • 5+ years’ experience in construction quality control
  • Knowledge of all equipment and tools being used in the construction field.

 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Able to work in a productive manner independently and with others in a team environment.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficient knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Project and tool tracking software programs.
  • Able to communicate effectively verbally and in a written form.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to computer rate, ratio and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to read, interpret and understand plans, specifications, construction cost data and other contract document to identify any errors, omissions, code violations and design inadequacies.

 Working Conditions

 

  • While working on the jobsite, individuals will be outside on an active construction site, in a trailer with job site management team, and at client’s facilities. Job walks and inspections outdoors are required. Jobsite appropriate attire is necessary.  Flexibility to work outside normal business hours and travel to project job sites will be required.  Travel to job sites includes overnight travel and the possibility of relocation will be required.
  • Depending upon project requirements, working conditions may include working in confined spaces and/or working with heights.

  

Physical Demands

 

  • May be required to lift up to 50lbs. Job site work may involve extended periods of walking or standing and additional limited physical requirements, including climbing ladders, scaffolding, maneuvering around small obstacles, moving through cramped quarters, crawling, etc. Also requires basic office work, including sitting, walking climbing stairs, kneeling, bending, and operating office equipment that is hand operated. Driving required- must have a valid driver’s license for three or more years; proof of automobile liability insurance required when driving personal vehicle.
  • While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is frequently required to: reach, bend, stretch, balance, walk, stoop, push, pull and climb.
  • Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear.
