Our services to the electric power industry have experienced exceptional growth and we have excellent opportunities to apply your knowledge to assist our clients in remediating groundwater impacts arising from coal combustion residuals (CCR) throughout the U.S. Our client base includes a diverse mix of industrial, institutional and governmental clients.

Our consulting practice for mining clients, and for sediment ‘mega-site’ remediation, also offer opportunities for a well-qualified candidate. Many of these clients are interested in evaluating the feasibility of monitored natural attenuation (MNA) and/or in-situ redox control technologies for inorganic constituents. These services require a detailed understanding of groundwater-aquifer solid interactions including aqueous speciation, mechanisms/rates/stability of adsorption process, techniques for characterizing aquifer solids, and redox kinetics. The position involves substantial cross-office collaboration with like-minded professionals through the U.S and potentially with our international offices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is well-suited for a talented, highly experienced individual who is interested in being a leader and contributing to innovative and challenging projects, including the financial and technical evaluation, design, permitting, and construction stages. We expect that you’d work on a variety of challenging technical projects while leveraging your existing knowledge and experience to help Geosyntec expand its current practices and capabilities through business development and client management. 

Some of the task-level or project management responsibilities you will be asked to do include:

  • Task and project management, including planning and implementing investigation and remediation projects, budgeting and budget management, adherence to schedule, quality, client satisfaction, and profitability;
  • Preparing remediation designs for soil, sediment, and groundwater remediation projects including drawing preparation, engineering analyses and calculations, and specifications;
  • Business development; including bringing in new clients and obtaining repeat business from existing clients, leading proposal preparation, and developing and implementing a business development plan;
  • Management and mentoring of junior staff and managing subcontractors;
  • Work plan development, data evaluation, and report writing on a variety of contaminated site assessment, remediation, and operations and maintenance projects;
  • Preparing technical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals;
  • Reviewing and managing written document production;
  • Preparing for and participating in meetings with clients, regulatory personnel, and other parties; and
  • At times, job may also include fieldwork including multi-media environmental sampling, sediment sampling and characterization, drilling oversight, contractor oversight, and remediation system operations, maintenance, and construction.

  • Training: This position requires OSHA/MSHA health and safety, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm.   • Fieldwork: Up to 25%
  • Overnight travel: Up to 30%

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geochemistry or Geology. (required)
  • Advanced degree in Geochemistry or Geology with geochemistry emphasis. (preferred)
  • Professional certification (P.G.). (preferred)

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 8 years of direct environmental consulting experience including projects involving developing conceptual site models and fate/transport of inorganic constituents in groundwater. (required)
  • Experience with geochemical forensics methods including stable isotopes. (preferred)
  • Experience and understanding of geochemical modeling software such as PHREEQE, Geochemist Work Bench, reactive transport modeling experience a plus. (preferred)
  • Detailed understanding USEPA regulations and guidance including inorganics monitored natural attenuation. (preferred; Coal Combustion Residual Rule a plus)
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary project teams. (required)
  • Demonstrated success in the development and management of clients. (required)
  • Excellent leadership skills. (required)
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)
  • Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
