POSITION GOAL

 

The primary responsibility of the Weatherization Technician is to perform weatherization services in homes and housing units of program-eligible participants.  Under direct supervision from the Weatherization Support Supervisor, duties include; installing materials, operating blower doors and insulation blowers, operating other hand and power tools, performing equipment maintenance, and generally performing various aspects of manual labor. The position requires the skills necessary to perform housing rehabilitation housing repairs, lead-based paint interim controls using current construction industry standards and following local codes using at minimum lead-safe work practices.

 

SCHEDULE AND WAGE

Monday-Friday 8:00 am- 4:30 pm (this will include some non-traditional hours); $17.04-$19.42 hourly.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Using safe work practices, fulfilling work requirements under time, and budgetary constraints/deadlines using the proper tools, materials, and resources.
  2. Demonstrate leadership in the area of worker safety.
  3. Follow agency time requirements for injury reporting. Proper notification to supervisor on unsafe working conditions.
  4. Ability to use tools and equipment safely, properly, and perform proper maintenance.
  5. Perform housing rehabilitation, repair, and lead-based paintwork following industry standards by following job write-ups/specifications.
  6. Perform required documentation and reporting which includes inventory, daily records of time and attendance, material installation, and any other required reporting documentation.
  7. Provide feedback on dangerous situations, liability issues, safety, and health-related issues.
  8. Ensure the proper use and maintenance of assigned program vehicles, tools and equipment; notify Crew Supervisor when appropriate maintenance is needed
  9. Load and haul necessary materials from vendors and suppliers.
  10. Follow Lead Safe Work Practices.
  11. Assist Crew Supervisor as need with project logs and records.
  12. Utilize and maintain proper inventory control procedures.
  13. Perform weatherization activities in accordance with applicable federal/state regulations and utility contracts to ensure consistent quality of work production.
  14. Attend required work-related training sessions as directed.
  15. Work with aide team members to develop to their fullest potential.
  16. Demonstrate leadership in the area of safety. This requires observing and following safety rules and practices, encouraging safe work behavior, and promptly correcting conditions and unsafe behaviors that may lead to accidents.
  17. Perform any other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or experience

 

  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. Minimum of six (6) months of hands-on experience performing weatherization and/or housing rehabilitation duties
  3. Good knowledge of safety practices regarding the proper use of power and/or hand tools and equipment utilized to perform home weatherization/rehabilitation services
  4. Demonstrated ability and efficiency to perform carpentry and paint stabilization
  5. Demonstrated ability to understand and follow specification write-ups

 

Skills and/or Abilities

 

  1. Accurately perform routine mathematical computations
  2. Follow and communicate instructions
  3. Work with the public in situations requiring tact, poise, and diplomacy
  4. Work in adverse weather conditions; tight workspaces
  5. Perform duties independently

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee frequently is required to talk or hear.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.  Must be able to wear negative pressure respirators.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

 

While performing the duties of this position the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Proper safety equipment will be provided when needed based on the work performed

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    1. Lead-based paint hazard reduction
    2. Housing rehabilitation
    3. Weatherization standards
    4. Lead Safe Work Practice – certification as soon as possible
