Purpose: The Shop Service Technician plays a vital role in diagnosing, servicing, and repairing customer and dealership-owned John Deere heavy construction equipment. This position requires strong technical skills and may involve occasional field service, guided by the Service Manager, Service Location Manager, or Shop Foreman. This role is essential to ensuring equipment performance and client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnostics and Repairs: Perform complex diagnostics and repairs on John Deere equipment and technology, ensuring all work adheres to the highest standards.
- Mentorship and Training: Mentor Service Technician Trainees and other Service Technicians, supporting the team’s development and expertise.
- Customer Support and Clinics: Conduct or support customer clinics, sharing product knowledge and maintenance tips to enhance client experience.
- Field Diagnostics and Repairs: Perform diagnostics and repairs in the field as required, providing timely support for client equipment.
- Documentation and Accountability: Maintain accurate, thorough documentation of diagnostics, repairs, and service hours on work orders, ensuring timely submission.
- Tools and Equipment Management: Operate and maintain all necessary tools and equipment, ensuring that they meet safety and operational standards.
- Workplace Safety and Cleanliness: Follow all safety rules and maintain a clean and orderly work area.
- Product Knowledge: Stay updated on the latest developments in John Deere and competitive equipment to provide the highest level of service to our clients.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent experience required; Associate degree in diesel technology or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems used in off-road construction or heavy equipment.
- Experience using diagnostic tools such as John Deere’s Service ADVISOR™ or equivalent systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms.
- Must possess an adequate toolset to perform job responsibilities.
- Valid driver’s license required; Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is preferred.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with John Deere or similar heavy equipment in construction, road building, or mining industries.
- Prior exposure to training programs and technical manuals in equipment maintenance.
- Familiarity with OSHA safety regulations and compliance standards.
- Demonstrated experience in achieving or exceeding performance metrics.
Work Environment:
- Primarily shop-based at the Meridian, Idaho location, with occasional field visits to client sites as needed.
- May require lifting and moving equipment up to 75 pounds, with physical activity such as standing, walking, and handling various tools and machinery.
- Exposure to outdoor conditions, including varying weather, when performing field service work.

Compensation & Benefits:
- Hourly Wage: $28 - $38 per hour, depending on skills, qualifications, and experience.
- Benefits Package (available after 90 days of employment): Includes health, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, and paid holidays.
