The Planning + Urban Design Group upholds this core purpose by collaborating on a variety of endeavors with our colleagues, partners, and public and private sector clients. We are pleased to post this opportunity for a Planner/Urban Designer to join our group, with a focus on candidates who believe in the importance of community planning and ‘triple bottom line’ sustainability.

The Planner/Urban Designer will regularly collaborate with our current team of 15 planners, urban designers and landscape architects primarily located in Milwaukee with others in Madison, Chicago, and Green Bay, while sharing their skills with ~255 other colleagues across our 8 offices. Our offices are all located in notable and vibrant metropolitan regions.

Expectations and primary responsibilities of our Planner/Urban Designer include:

  • Create recommendations based on local and national best practices for triple-bottom-line sustainable development, multi-modal transportation, and urban design.
  • Map and diagram complex information.
  • Present to audiences of varying sizes in person or in digital platforms.
  • Prepare scopes, budgets, and schedules for project procurement.
  • Develop and review data analytics, development proposals, market and real estate analyses, site designs, pro formas, and planning documents.
  • Design and implement creative and inclusive community engagement.
  • Exude self-starter capabilities while seeking input from others.
  • Maintain meaningful conversation with colleagues, partners, communities, and clients while generating results.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for the work at hand, for collaborating with colleagues, for advocating to enrich our future, and for creativity and professional excellence.

We are considering Planner/Urban Designer candidates who possess the following basic qualifications:

  • Master's degree in city / regional / urban planning, urban design, landscape architecture, architecture, or a Bachelor’s degree in the aforementioned areas of study plus equivalent experience.
  • Previous project or work experience in city planning or urban design through an internship or prior employment preferred.
  • Demonstrated high-level proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, AutoCAD or Revit, and / or GIS software desired.
  • Excellence in written communication, quantitative analysis, graphic design, urban design, presenting, and critical thinking skills.
