Position Overview:
Join Coastline Equipment’s exclusive John Deere Technician Training Program! This unique program combines on-the-job training with classroom instruction to develop highly skilled, certified John Deere technicians. Over two years, participants will gain hands-on experience at a Coastline Equipment dealership, while earning an associate degree from Linn Benton Community College, specializing in diesel technology. Upon graduation, students will be certified in John Deere’s three core service areas: Electrical, Hydraulics, and Service Advisor. Participants in this program are equipped with the technical expertise and professional skills necessary for rewarding careers as John Deere construction equipment technicians.
Key Responsibilities:
- Education & Training: Complete two years of classroom and lab training through Linn Benton Community College’s John Deere Tech Program, meeting minimum GPA requirements.
- Hands-on Experience: Participate in at least two dealership internships to apply classroom learning in a practical, professional setting.
- Certification: Obtain certifications in key areas including Electrical, Hydraulics, and John Deere’s Service Advisor software.
- John Deere University Credits: Fulfill required credits through John Deere University to meet all certification standards.
- Safety and Compliance: Follow all safety rules, regulations, and company policies in performing work assignments.
- Reporting and Documentation: Complete all necessary reports and forms, including electronic submissions, for service tasks and assignments.
- Service Assistance: Assist senior technicians with service tasks and repairs, performing basic maintenance and keeping workspaces organized.
- Component Skills: Develop proficiency in the removal, disassembly, and reconditioning of machinery components.
- Inspection and Set-Up: Assist with pre-delivery inspections and setup on new equipment.
- Additional Duties: Perform other related tasks as assigned to support the dealership’s operations.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; must be able to provide high school transcripts.
- Interest in Mechanics: Demonstrated interest in learning repair techniques for power/agricultural equipment, with foundational knowledge in engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- Communication Skills: Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively with customers and colleagues.
- Physical Requirements: Capable of lifting 75 lbs. repeatedly and completing physical tasks required for heavy equipment service.
- Technical Certifications: Must complete certification paths via John Deere University.
- Safety Certifications: Forklift certification required, provided by Bragg Safety Department.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with MS Office is beneficial.
- Eligibility: Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Physical Ability: Must be capable of handling heavy machinery, using hands for control and operation of equipment.
- Environmental Conditions: Work will be performed outdoors, with exposure to varying weather conditions.
- Stamina: Prolonged periods of standing, kneeling, crawling, and climbing may be required, along with the ability to lift 50 lbs.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Cooperative Work Experience Rate: $15.50 per hour
- Employment upon Completion: $31.00 per hour
