GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Maintains a compassionate environment and service delivery approach to protect, support, and empower children. Provides supervision to Residential Supervisors, Kitchen and Facility as well as other designated residential staff. Interviews, hires, and provides coaching, mentoring, and ongoing feedback to shelter supervisors and support staff. Collaborates with YESS Behavioral Health Department, Integrated Care Connections, AEA, and external service providers to ensure needs of the whole child are met. Reviews relevant reports, trends, and communications with external agencies to identify and address improvement opportunities or concerns with shelter operations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s preferred
  • Experience working with youth in the area of child welfare services.
  • Significant leadership and supervisory experience required
  • Demonstrated mastery of trauma-informed care/trauma specific approaches and de-escalation techniques required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to make independent decisions, manage multiple functions under stress and with changing priorities.
  • General computer knowledge.
  • Must have an acceptable background check and no record of child abuse.

DUTIES SPECIFIC TO THE POSITION:

Supervisory

  • Hire, supervise, coach, and evaluate Residential Supervisors, kitchen, facility, and scheduling staff and provide guidance on personnel management of all residential staff.
  • Assist in conducting staff meetings and training.
  • Provide positive role modeling for residents and staff in areas of communication, decision-making, and problem solving.
  • Work with referral workers, parents, unit staff, and other providers as needed to ensure client needs are met.
  • Perform observations and conduct coaching of staff through visits to units, viewing of camera footage, and discussions with clients, staff, and leadership.
  • Collaborate with the Residential Supervisors to ensure all units are adequately staffed on a shift by shift basis.
  • Conduct portions of New Employee Orientation.
  • Model, coach, and train CPI de-escalation strategies.
  • Co-facilitate DHS/JCS collaborative meetings with Clinical Support Manager.
  • Works collaboratively with Residential Services Director and Shelter Therapist to review and follow up on any shelter based grievances.
  • Established presence on evening and weekend shifts is required
  • Oversees cleanliness and sanitation of the building
  • Provides guidance to contractor for shelter food service to ensure nutritional needs of youth are met and kitchen complies with food safety guidelines

Management

  • Complete performance reviews in compliance with HR expectations, as well all necessary paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with Counseling, ICC and community partners to ensure client needs are met.
  • Review incident reports regularly, ensure staff and clients are appropriately debriefed and take action to address any client concerns or personnel issues.
  • Develop and maintain positive internal and external relationships.
  • Closely oversee services of clients with unique or extremely high needs.

General Duties

  • Ensure compliance with licensing and programming standards.
  • Conduct oneself professionally when interacting with all youth, family members, visitors, system partners and the general public.
  • Participate in all scheduled meetings, trainings and supervision sessions as requested.
  • Observes behavior and interactions involving youth at all times, and reports any potentially harmful or suspicious behaviors immediately through the incident reporting process.
