Laborer Job Description

Job Summary:

At Site Work Specialists, a laborer assists and learns about site development, excavation, grading, and utilities. The position’s skill set is always increasing by working with an exceptional team that prides itself on doing some of the finest and most challenging projects in this region.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Retrieve materials
  • Manually shovel materials such as dirt and gravel
  • Maintain clean work area and job site
  • Assist Superintendent, Foreman, and Operators as needed
  • Trained by Safety Director to operate a Bobcat
  • Be dependable to your team: You work as a team and progress as a team

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Desire to learn more about the construction industry and advance your career
  • Pay attention to job details and job site hazards
  • Willingness to learn and master new tasks, duties, and responsibilities
  • Safely and correctly operate all equipment and manual/power tools. Do not operate any equipment or tools that you have not been trained to use properly
  • Keep all tools and equipment in good, clean, and operating order
  • Demonstrate and promote safety and proper housekeeping on all job sites
  • Display a positive attitude towards the company, fellow employees, and customers
  • Take direction and accomplish duties outlined by your supervisor and ask questions when you do not understand the task
  • Be responsible for working unsupervised for periods of time and complete work as directed
  • Be ready to help with any task, even if it is below your skill level

Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screening and random employee pool drug/alcohol testing
  • Must have personal transportation to and from job sites, including out-of-town work
  • Must arrive on time to job site fit for duty for required shift and have personal protective equipment (PPE) and necessary tools with you.
  • Attend all safety meetings and maintain safe job site practices following company policy
  • Wear and maintain PPE as directed by supervisor and safety team, including but not limited to, hard hats, safety glasses, and high visibility vests
  • Willingness to travel out-of-town
  • Work overtime as required, including some weekends
  • Maintain acceptable personal hygiene
  • Dress appropriately for winter working conditions

Must have required tools listed below within 30 days of hire and bring them with you to the job site as needed:

Gloves

25’ Tape

Utility Knife

Leather Work Boots

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds regularly throughout the work shift
  • Must be physically able to work a minimum of 8 hours a day and overtime as needed
  • Must be able to stand for long periods, lift heavy materials, perform strenuous tasks, and work outdoors in high heat and cold weather conditions
