Heavy Equipment Mechanic Job Description

Job Summary

At Site Work Specialists, a heavy equipment mechanic assists with preventative maintenance and repairs of diesel equipment in the field. They travel to various job sites to make electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic repairs on equipment such as excavators, loaders, trenchers, dozers, and more.

The position’s skill set is continuously increasing by working with an exceptional team that prides itself on doing some of the finest and most challenging projects in this region.

Salary

  • Depends on experience
  • Hourly pay/overtime eligible
  • Paid weekly via direct deposit

Essential Functions:

  • Promote safety on the job site/shop, attend safety meetings, and keep work areas clean
  • Be a dependable team member
  • Willingness to learn new tasks, duties, and responsibilities
  • Clean, maintain, and safely operate all equipment and manual/power tools
  • Preventative maintenance on heavy equipment
  • Diagnosis and repair of heavy equipment
  • Follow standards in ordering necessary parts
  • Knowledge of diesel engine repair
  • Complete necessary daily walkarounds and checks on equipment
  • Daily servicing of equipment (lube, hydraulics, etc.)
  • Maintain proper shop paperwork
  • Keeping cab and floors of equipment free of trash
  • Other tasks outside of equipment maintenance as directed by supervisor

Job Requirements and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience specific to heavy equipment preferred (will consider less than two years experience if the candidate has completed a recognized training program)
  • Must be able to obtain Class A CDL with airbrake endorsement (willing to train)
  • Pay attention to job details and job site hazards
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screening and random employee pool drug/alcohol testing
  • Must have personal transportation to and from job sites, including out-of-town work
  • Must arrive on time to job site fit for duty for required shift and have personal protective equipment (PPE) and necessary tools with you.
  • Attend all safety meetings and maintain safe job site practices following company policy
  • Wear and maintain PPE as directed by supervisor and safety team, including but not limited to hard hats, safety glasses, and high visibility vests
  • Willingness to travel and work out-of-town (for projects that require overnight stays, the company will provide travel, housing, and per diem)
  • Work overtime as required, including some weekends
  • Maintain acceptable personal hygiene
  • Dress appropriately for winter working conditions
  • Display a positive attitude towards the company, fellow employees, and customers
  • Take direction and accomplish duties outlined by your supervisor and ask questions when you do not understand the task

Required Tools:

Must have own mechanic tools to work on heavy equipment

 Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to stand for long periods, lift heavy materials (up to 75 pounds with or without help, perform strenuous tasks, and work outdoors in high heat and cold weather conditions
  • Must be physically able to work a minimum of 8 hours a day and overtime as needed
