Superintendent

Superintendents oversee and manage all phases of construction projects including project safety coordinating workers, materials, and equipment, supervising sub-contractors and staff, ensuring that specifications are being followed, and that work is proceeding on schedule, within budget, and to quality standards. ** Superintendents may interact with specific Government, Federal, County, and/or City Agencies, based on Division and/or Department assigned. Specific job titles may include Telecommunications, Underground, Field, Bore Crew, Project, Equipment, Gas, Electric etc.; however, the essential duties and responsibilities are highlighted below. 

What Do You Offer Us?

  • Monitors job safety and safety training; enforces safety programs and OSHA Standards as required and ensure subcontractor compliance with company standards
  • Primary liaison with project managers and engineers for the day-to-day construction activities of the project
  • Perform in-depth review of all contract documents to become familiar with all details, notes, and requirements
  • Monitor quality standards of all jobs, including contractor performance, and ensure that all quality assurance and company standards are being met  
  • Provide guidance in resolving construction problems encountered
  • Provide technical assistance regarding construction methods and equipment
  • Lead, supervise and develop all field staff, including providing input on or completing performance appraisals
  • Ensure strict adherence to ethics and compliance requirements at all times
  • Identify potential changed conditions and inform Project Engineer and Project Manager
  • Assist with preparation of written reports and/or updates (internal and external) for management, client, and project team, to ensure a clear understanding of project status
  • Manage and make decisions related to the performance of work related to scheduling, delivery, logistics, quality control and trade employee staffing levels
  • Oversee work among all trades to promote a coordinated project operation. Resolving local area problems regarding procedures, precedence, design clarifications, adequate labor and equipment, schedule and all other appropriate matters
  • Act as liaison among owner’s representatives, inspection agencies, staff, and subcontractors
  • Manage the General Conditions and General Requirements for the project to maintain budget
  • Manage the work to ensure that it is completed in compliance with and conforms to the approved contract documents
  • Track and control schedules and associated costs to achieve completion of project on time and within budget
  • Oversee all aspects of the job site: coordinate, schedule, direct, monitor and inspect all activities of the subcontractors, suppliers, labor and material, train. Mentor foreman and crew members.
  • Assist in the selection and hiring of related staff.  Trains and evaluates employees to enhance their performance, development, and work product. Addresses performance issues and makes recommendations for personnel actions.
  • Other related duties and projects as assigned

What is Required?

  • Ability to work extended hours when necessary for business needs
  • Experience working in construction is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed
  • Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Minimum 10 years of industry related experience in airport fueling, electrical utility and/or gas pipeline construction
  • Able to lift, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds
  • Able to monitor the project site throughout each shift
  • Able to pass respiratory fit test if working in an environment where required
  • Able to lead crews in stretch and flex activities daily
  • Able to access all areas of a project site to inspect work and communicate with employees
  • Able to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction
  • Work is performed at project sites and in an office and/or trailer locations
  • Work may be performed most outdoors in weather conditions that vary from below freezing temperatures to heat above 90 degrees, in wet and dry conditions and in rural areas. Some exposure to odors, gases, dust, and dirt may occur. The noise level in the work environment may range from moderate to loud.
