Position Summary

We are seeking a Health and Safety Coordinator to support our safety culture and uphold our exceptional safety efforts in our various markets (this person will focus on serving our Northern, VA, DC and Southern MD markets and support our Industrial Refrigeration team as needed in the Carolinas). Candidates that live in the following areas will be considered: Richmond, Charlottesville, Harrisonburg, Northern Virginia, Southern Maryland, Hampton Roads

What we are looking for:

  • Safety experience in the service, manufacturing, commercial or industrial construction industry (preferred, but not required)
  • OSHA 500 or 501 Certification in 1910 General Industry or 1926 Construction Industry (preferred, but not required)
  • Possess current First Aid/CPR/AED certification and ability to obtain Instructor status
  • Ability to learn and enforce current corporate policies and procedures
  • Ability to enforce current Occupational Safety & Health regulations
  • Ability to learn current NFPA Standards applicable to the work operations
  • Ability to learn current US Army Corps of Engineers Safety program (EM-385.1)
  • Display genuine care for the safety and wellbeing of others through actions and attitude
  • Strong analysis, problem-solving and critical thinking skills to provide safety solutions
  • Empathy in approach to identify and teach/coach (rather than demand/delegate) safe behaviors
  • Ability to communicate (verbal and written) clearly and effectively with internal and external customers at various levels within an organization (i.e., owners, subcontractors, engineers, managers, field employees)
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in computer programs including Outlook, Microsoft Office, and familiarity with using tablets
  • Desire and willingness to travel (up to 7 nights away from home each month)

What you will do:

  • Conduct site assessments of facilities, work areas, and equipment; observing teammate work practices and improving safety preparedness to ensure teammates are equipped with the tools and training to be successful
  • Identify corrective actions necessary to bring sites into compliance with applicable codes, laws, regulations, and standards, and explain these measures so others understand
  • Evaluate injuries, illnesses, vehicle incidents, and close calls for causes and sustainable corrective actions
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Maintain and review documents submitted from the field, for example, pre-task panning forms jobsite safety inspections and various permits
  • Provide assistance with work activities that require permits
  • Accompany teammates to medical facilities for post-incident care
  • Assess job site to ensure employees are equipped with the tools and training to be safe and successful
  • Respond to incidents (including close calls) and support managers in incident investigation procedures
  • Identify corrective action necessary and support field management to sustain compliance of applicable federal, state, and local regulations
  • Facilitate safety training and support for operations teams, as required
