Job Description

GEI has an excellent mid-level (3-8 years of experience) environmental opportunity to join our growing environmental team in Sacramento, CA; Carlsbad, CA; Oakland, CA, or Portland, OR. The position involves executing work on projects located throughout California and the Pacific Northwest in the water, energy, environmental, climate change, habitat conservation and restoration, and other sectors. The position has tremendous short- and long-term growth opportunities for your career within GEI. As part of our multidisciplinary project teams and working/learning under a senior project director and project manager, you will have an important role in executing projects; interfacing with existing and new clients to ensure their environmental compliance needs are met; conducting and coordinating environmental analyses for California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), and other environmental regulations; and working as part of our team to solve an array of problems critical to our most important environmental challenges. The position is a regular, full-time role.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

  • Perform report writing, data collection and analysis, site visits, and literature reviews.
  • Interface with clients and teaming partners, and coordinate and prepare CEQA/NEPA/FERC compliance documents, environmental permitting packages, and other environmental technical reports.
  • Assist project managers with project coordination duties to support our clients and projects, including coordination with GEI’s internal team and external clients and teaming partners.
  • Assist project managers with business development activities including proposal and interview preparation and responding to requests for proposals.
  • As part of integrated teams, work closely and collaboratively with other GEI environmental specialists, engineers, planners, project managers, and project directors to execute projects effectively and efficiently.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience. Experience may include writing and editing planning or environmental documents and/or conducting environmental analysis and experience to support CEQA, NEPA, FERC,  or similar documents.
  • BA, BS, MA, MS, or Ph.D. from an accredited college or university, preferably in a planning-, environmental-, or natural or physical science-based discipline.
  • Desire to learn and grow into a project management role.
  • Outstanding problem-solving, organization, coordination, people, and written and verbal communication skills; solid work ethic; and ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with others as part of multidisciplinary teams. 
  • Excellent quality of work and technical experience a must.
  • Successful track record meeting project budgets and schedules.
