 Job Description

The Boring Crew Laborer / Locator will be primarily responsible for setup and completion of drilling variable sized underground holes and pulling back required conduit. Boring Crew Laborer / Locator will work with the Outside Plant Supervisor to complete job requirements from start to finish on outside plant projects including digging boring pit, directional boring, pulling back of conduit, splicing of conduit sections, pulling fiber through conduit, setting hand holes, backfilling and seeding, core drilling and pot holing, building penetrations and close out pictures and redlines.

Compensation:

Starting wage: $18-20/hr (DOE)

Compensation will be negotiated depending upon experience. 

Responsibilities:

  • Operate Horizontal Directional Drill
  • Assist in potholing and remediation
  • Assist with setting hand holes and completing tie ins
  • Drive equipment to job site
  • Confirms with locator/lead the bore path to drill
  • Set equipment up including the drill, water tanks and grounding the machine
  • Drill out following the predetermined drill path to the exit pit
  • Communicate with the locator/lead via radio to confirm the location of the drill head
  • Assist with the install of proper pulling gear and hook up product
  • Reverse process to install product
  • Oversee laborers and/or crew member’s work and monitor time usage
  • Conduct post-job quality checks
  • Clean, check fluid levels and conduct a visual inspection of vehicle/equipment to assure your vehicle/equipment is performing at optimum safety, perform the required pre-trip, post trip inspections and the required paperwork, perform needed maintenance including winterizing equipment.
  • Communicates with Supervisor daily to turn in required paperwork (i.e. Bore log, vehicle maintenance reports, etc.)
  • Follows specifications for the job and company policies
  • Complies with safety procedures while driving and at job site
  • Strive for optimal production while working safely and performing quality work

Reports To

  • Crew Leader and Boring/Communication Director.

 

Position Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of underground utilities
  • Working knowledge of DOT regulations (Vehicle and Operator Qualifications)
  • Understanding of client and company work specifications
  • Ability to comply with the “Operator’s Manual” for your particular equipment
  • Ability to read and comprehend and follow all quality/safety policies and procedures
  • Self-motivated, safety, quality and production minded
  • Maintain valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL Class A, with airbrake endorsement)
  • Ability to work in all types of weather
  • Knowledge of underground pot holing preferred
  • Self-motivated, safety, quality and production minded
  • Horizontal Drilling, locator, or ground work experience a plus. 

Prerequisites:

  • Must have valid drivers license with clean driving record.
  • Must complete and pass a pre‐employment drug & alcohol screen.
  • Must be able to pass background and pre-employment physical
  • Must be able to work long hours and weekends if needed.
  • Ability to travel as required, Monday-Friday. 

Dress Code (minimum)

  • Long pants w/o major holes, presentable shirt w/4” sleeve minimum, work boots, hardhat, safety glasses & gloves.
