Summary

Balfour Beatty US is seeking an Employee Communications Manager to join our Shared Services team in Dallas, TX! The employee communications manager executes the company’s national employee communications strategy for over 4000 employees. This critical role is key to keeping our employees informed, engaged, and inspired through a holistic employee communications approach. Using a variety of channels, the employee communications manager targets information to capture engagement.  

The manager works closely with colleagues across the organization to tell the stories that engage, inspire, and inform our employees. The position requires a high level of professional maturity and collaboration while ensuring the regular, steady cadence of messages, stories, and information. The manager must love to write and possess a high degree of creativity and ability to break down complex messages into small, consumable parts. In addition, the manager must be deadline-orientated with strong project and campaign planning/management experience.

 The employee communications manager is responsible for managing the following priorities:

  • Create effective and creative content for our employee newsletter, on-demand news and campaign content and manage the employee news channels
  • Manage the company’s initiative communications plans on behalf of our shared service functions (e.g. HR, Benefits, IT, Learning & Development, Legal)
  • Manage content for our company intranet and MS Teams push communications
  • Support our executive leadership communications messages
  • Support manager-level communications and updates
  • Collaborate with communications teams for integrated campaigns
  • Repurpose and refocus external-facing content to make relevant for an employee audience

  • Understands the importance of writing and creating content for specific employee audiences through the company’s tone/style
  • Is able to build constructive and effective relationships both internally and externally, put others at ease and establish rapport; relate to all kinds of people at all levels inside and outside the organization

  • Remains calm under pressure; perseveres in the face of resistance or setbacks

 Education, Experience and Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in communication or a related field OR five years of relevant Corporate Communications experience (additional plus if this experience is within a matrixed organization)
  • Proven success in effective employee communications campaigns with metrics to back it up
  • Strong writing/storytelling skills, able to write in a variety of styles (including persuasive and editorial styles) that is necessary to adapt story/message to multiple internal audiences; can use other multi-media methods to create engaging content
  • Desktop publishing and graphics skills with experience in photo editing, page layout and presentation software preferrable
  • Strategy oriented, able to create, manage, and revise schedules and related assignments based on priorities of assigned projects
  • Able to make decisions under tight deadlines or pressure and in the face of incomplete information
  • Demonstrate leadership skills, able and willing to face challenges, provide direction to others, and effectively address conflict
  • Available to travel as needed
