Position purpose:
Build, form and place concrete structures using basic construction knowledge, while keeping a clean and safe work environment. Have the ability to safely operate hand and power tools.
Responsibilities:
- Follow established safety rules and regulations.
- Clean work areas, machines & equipment, to maintain a clean and safe jobsite.
- Read measurements and distances using tape measure and square.
- Mark cutting lines on boards, rebar, and other construction materials.
- Ability to use handsaw, power saw, or other power tools.
- Build and position forms.
- Install expansion joint and chamfer in proper position and at desired elevations.
- Select tools/materials necessary to complete assigned work and transport to work site.
- Load, unload, identify, and distribute materials and tools to appropriate locations.
- Spread, level, smooth concrete using rake, come-along and shovel.
- Operate power vibrator to compact concrete.
- Hand float and trowel to seal concrete.
- Mix sand and water to produce grout.
- Grouts tie holes and other concrete surfaces.
- Smooth and/or brick concrete surfaces to remove ridges, marks or adhesives.
- Signal truck driver to position truck to facilitate concrete placement.
- Move chute to direct flow of concrete into forms.
- Hold plumb bob, grade rod or other tools to aid setting reference points lines.
- Control traffic passing near, in and around work zones.
- Participate in daily start of shift, TSSP and Task/Hazard board completion.
- Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, and compact and level earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, and rakes.
- Properly disassemble, clean, oil and stack forms.
- Inspect equipment, hand and power tools for defects and safety.
- Support UCI objectives by participating in daily meetings, knowing crew goals, knowing individual goals, being able to identify and communicate waste to supervisor, and be aware of weekly plan.
- Participates in the UCI Behavioral Safety Process by stopping unsafe behaviors.
- Understands the chain of command when it comes to safety issues.
- Reports damage, accidents, or failure to direct supervisor.
- Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
- Apply construction mathematics to solve problems.
- Recognize & compare differences in the size/shape/form of lines/figures/objects.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Some construction experience or labor experience preferred.
- Ability to travel out of town extended periods of time.
- Must pass Drug and Alcohol Screenings, Occupational Physical Ability Tests, and a background checks.
Work Environment:
The Concrete Tech 1 position performs in a field construction environment containing wind, dirt, heat, cold, fumes, smoke, water, noise, grease, oil, mud, and dust. This individual will consistently be walking, standing, and sitting while performing work that involves lifting, pulling, pushing, climbing, and confined spaces; while interacting and working with project managers, superintendents, foremen, other field hourly, interns, operators and subs.

- Various locations but primarily in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas.
