Position Details

Family Resources is looking for a passionate, energetic, and flexible Domestic Violence Counselor Advocate. The Illinois Domestic Violence Counselor Advocate will provide domestic violence services to youth and adults in the service area that identify as child witnesses to domestic violence/survivors of teen dating violence/survivors of domestic violence. The Counselor Advocate will provide individual, family, and group counseling, advocacy, case management, and safety planning for individuals affected by domestic violence in Rock Island County, Illinois, and parts of Henry County. In addition, this position will provide outreach, awareness, and training to organizations, schools, systems, and agencies in order to address the unique needs of this population as well as increase identification and therefore referral to services as well as access to services.

Position Hours: 1st shift, Monday-Friday; schedule is subject to change due to outcalls

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure free, voluntary, non-discriminatory, accessible services for all clients.
  • Be knowledgeable of community resources that will assist in meeting youth survivors’ needs and provide appropriate culturally competent referrals to survivors.
  • Provides age and developmentally appropriate individual counseling/support groups to survivors/witnesses.
  • Assists survivors with emergency food, clothing, transportation assistance, immediate shelter, and related supportive services, legal advocacy, medical advocacy, transportation, child care, and safety planning.
  • Provides parent support and/or significant other support and advocacy services.
  • Provide public awareness and outreach in the service area.
  • Provides targeted professional outreach, and training to increase identification and referral for services as well as a trauma-informed response to individuals affected by domestic violence.
  • Keeps an open flexible schedule to meet the needs of the community, survivors, and the program.
  • Assess and implement services to meet the unique needs of the survivors served.
  • Establishes and maintains positive relationships with individuals and community members.
  • Have the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and civil manner while appreciating the unique contribution of individuals from varied cultures, races, creeds, colors, national origin, ages, sex, disability, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
  • Attends community meetings determined to be essential and serves on multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Provides and accepts ideas and suggestions in a constructive and helpful manner.
  • Exhibits good teamwork; is approachable cooperative and contributes to an overall positive and productive work/team environment
  • Takes initiative in problem-solving and utilizes resources such as team members and community resources to assist in addressing client/volunteer issues that arise.
  • Set clear expectations for self and team to achieve work objectives and provides support and input to team members to help find solutions and allows for a team approach to solving barriers and challenges.
  • Possess the ability to utilize existing resources and learning to achieve or exceed desired outcomes of current and future organizational goals/ needs.
  • Able to demonstrate ethical behavior in diverse situations and strives for excellence in performance by upholding established ethical standards and upholding program values.
  • Provides timesheet documentation for all funding sources related to the position.
  • Inputs daily services into the data entry system by the noted deadline each week.
  • Ensures service projections are met for the funding sources that are funding the position.
  • Is able to assess the effectiveness of services provided and make adjustments to service delivery if needed.
  • Understanding of the issues related to the decision-making process; ability to analyze situations fully and accurately, and reach productive decisions.
  • Identifies, obtains, and organizes relevant data and ideas.
  • Utilizes feedback from various sources in order to improve the quality of services offered. Sources such as surveys, volunteers, community, and team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications 

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Human Services field required.

Experience: 3 years of experience working in the human services field with survivor services experience preferred. Experience providing child and youth services preferred.

Must have current proof of car insurance, able to pass driving background checks, and have reliable transportation.
