Heiman, Inc. has been serving the Fire Service industry with custom-built fire apparatus and equipment for over 60 years.  We are looking for a Financial Controller.   This position will be responsible for the accounting operation of the company to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the companies reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or financial reporting standards.

You’ll do a variety of finance-related functions including:

Management:

  • Oversee the AP, AR, bank reconciliation and debt repayment processes
  • Oversee the accounting operations of subsidiary corporations especially their control systems, transaction-processing operations, and policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the personnel in the accounting department including hiring, coaching, training, discipline as appropriate
  • Manage outsourced functions such as payroll provider, 401(k) provider, worker’s compensation carrier, liability carrier, technology provider and human resource provider and other outsourced services
  • Serve as point of contact for vendors including technology and other outsourced services
  • Oversee shipping costs and profits and make recommendations regarding cost-saving measures

Transactions:

  • Administer, maintain and reconcile all business insurance plan such as liability, property, worker’s compensation, vehicle. Manage vendors delegated to perform specific plan operations. Monitor and evaluate performance and compliance.
  • Direct and administer the day-to-day operation of the 401(k) plan
  • Monitor administrative costs of benefit programs and recommend cost containment strategies, including alternative methods of administration and funding.
  • Reconcile and pay the monthly premium statements for all group insurance policies and maintain statistical data relative to premiums, claims and costs. Resolve administrative problems with the carrier representatives.

Reporting:

  • Issue timely and complete financial statements
  • Coordinate the preparation of annual reports
  • Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics
  • Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management
  • Provide financial analyses as needed, in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations

Compliance:

  • Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit
  • Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings

Here’s what you’ll need to be successful:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration, or equivalent business experience and 5+ years of progressively responsible experience, familiar with manufacturing environment.
  • Preferred but not required Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designations.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and forecasting techniques as well as proficiency with financial statement analysis and projection
  • Prefer previous management experience
  • Prefer knowledge of MRP processes, forecasting, supply chain and inventory management
