Description

The Structural Engineer is responsible for the design, plan and oversee the construction of new buildings and bridges, or alterations and extensions to existing properties or other structures.

Responsibilities/Tasks of role:

  • Assess on a continuous basis the scope of all projects and manage resources, both in-house and sub-consultant, to deliver quality engineering designs within the timeframe scheduled for each project.
  • Manage and keep current as required all individual PE and company licenses.
  • Develop/maintain Engineering Standards and coordinate with Detailing Manager to assure consistency between Detailing Standards, Engineering Standards, current codes, and sound engineering practice.
  • Instruct company personnel on the application of codes and standards.
  • Manage ongoing training regime for engineering personnel.
  • Review project design drawings and make recommendations for value engineering and avoiding fabrication and erection problems.
  • Review individual project work scope with LSC design engineer and establish tentative scope of work to be outsourced to engineering consultant, if required.
  • Finalize outsourced scope of work with outside engineering consultant, if required.
  • Provide structural steel connection designs, coordinating with the LSC Project Manager, the detailer, the Engineer of Record, and the Steel Erector as necessary, submitting them to the appropriate LSC sealing engineer if necessary.
  • Coordinate with outside engineering consultants as required to complement LSC in-house design activities and review outsourced designs as necessary.
  • Assist the Quality Control Department in evaluating fabrication non-conformances and recommend remedies.
  • Manage the review of shop and erection drawings to confirm compliance with connections designed by LSC and outside engineering consultants.
  • Review field issues as they relate to structural problems and recommend remedies, coordinating with outside engineering consultants as required.
  • Review and seal LSC connection designs as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by leadership.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering – Structural Concentration preferred
  • Professional Engineer (PE) Required
  • Minimum six years’ engineering experience required
  • Minimum five years’ management experience required
  • Ability to pass a background and drug screen.
