Job Summary

The Diagnostic Imaging Specialist I provides excellent patient care and performs all the photography and angiography for the Department of Ophthalmology.

Practice Operations (Day to Day)
• Performs imaging including, but not limited to: Fluorescein Angiography, Fundus Photography (stereo), Optical Coherence Tomography, ICG Angiography, Slit Lamp Photography, MPI, Corneal Mapping, Specular Biomicroscopy including Confocal Imaging, HRT Analyzer (glaucoma), Side/Flatbed scanning.
• Greet patients and visitors using excellent customer service. Ensures the patient has completed the screening process. Ensures the patient has appropriate personal protective equipment upon arrival. Ensure the patient has completed the screening process.
• Drive awareness of pre and post-visit processes and self-services in place to minimize density and unnecessary patient-staff contact.
• Expedite rooming of patients quickly according to practice operation standards.
• Interprets hospital and department policies and procedures to patients and staff fostering understanding and positive acceptance.
• Works with practice staff to manage visitor flow to practices/departments. Performs basic troubleshooting and works with staff to resolve any issues affecting visitor entry to practice or other visitor experience issues.
• Utilizes systems and other technology as appropriate.
• Take initiative to resolve patient safety and patient experience concerns within the scope of practice/ training/education
• Communicate with patients and practice team members through the Electronic Health Record (EHR) timely, accurately, and following

Patient Experience/ Safety
• Engage customers by proactively welcoming them and explaining steps.
• Build relationships with patients and caregivers by answering service questions. Interact with patients in a way that fosters and reinforces their well-being, safety, security, and confidence in practice services and support.
• Promotes customer satisfaction by responding to patient concerns promptly, displaying a positive attitude in interactions with staff, patients, and family members.

Compliance
• Keep current on all organizational, practice, and patient privacy policies (e.g. infection control, HIPAA), goals, initiatives, and required trainings.
• Maintain a safe and secure work environment by following all OSHA, EH&S, and public safety policies and guidelines.

Workforce Environment Safety
• Follow and adhere to Infection Prevention & Control guidelines as appropriate.
• Create an environment of safety by utilizing "low to no-touch" methods and social distancing practices.
• Ensures the overall condition of the treatment room is clean and safe according to practice standards. Escalates any issues to Environmental Services, Engineering, Central Sterile, Materials Management, etc. and ensures follow-through.
• Ensures inventory and adequate supply of personal protective equipment and other hygiene products in the patient treatment area.

Other
• Maintain high personal standards of professional conduct and ethical behavior.
• Other duties as assigned within a professional scope of practice/training/education.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

• B.S. in Biomedical Photography and a minimum of 1 year of ophthalmology experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize while maintaining a pleasant and calm demeanor with customers, patients, and caregivers
• Must be able to handle oneself in a professional and service-oriented manner, heavy and diverse workload in a busy and pressured outpatient environment
• Ability to work collaboratively with a culturally diverse staff and patient/family population demonstrating tact, respect, and sensitivity.
• Must have excellent communication skills, organizational skills, high energy level, highly developed interpersonal skills, and ability to actively handle patients who may be in stressful situations
• Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills including, but not limited to, Electronic Health Systems, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Email systems, etc.
• Ability to participate as a member of a team, including reliability, punctuality, and adaptability to new and changing situations.
• Must be a motivated individual with a positive mindset and an exceptional work ethic.
• Must successfully complete systems training requirements.

Preferred Qualifications


• Preferred multi-specialty experience in a high volume setting
• CPR certified
• Prior EMR experience
