POSITION SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE: 

The incumbent assists the Branch Safety Director as a core local spokesperson by helping to disseminate the details of our Hearts & Minds safety program both internally and externally. S/he orients new employees with our safety culture, implements our safety program on all company projects and service/maintenance assignments, and interfaces with local project leadership teams to keep safety front and center in our daily operations. 

KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Conducts worksite inspections to identify, escalate, and/or mitigate safety concerns. 
  • Assists with tracking of all job site safety audits, toolbox talks, huddles, and daily/monthly paperwork. 
  • Implements an internal audit program to analyze program effectiveness and document compliance. 
  • Builds relationships to facilitate open communication and influence the adoption of our safety program. 
  • Completes follow-up on subcontractor safety complaints and documents outcomes. 
  • Assists with equipment tracking, hazard analysis, and incident/accident/near-miss investigations. 
  • Attends and functions as a trusted resource in safety and other relevant meetings. 
  • Analyzes training records and upcoming projects to determine whether training needs exist. 
  • Assists in developing, improving, and conducting safety-related training on an as-needed basis. 
  • Participates in new hire orientation and ensures new hires are provided with proper safety gear.
  • Reviews safety inventory and initiates orders, as necessary, based on existing stock. 
  • Inputs key data into Industry Safe at regular intervals for compliance and documentation purposes. 
  • Updates Safety Data Sheets (SDS) per OSHA and project requirements. 
  • Partners with other internal safety peers to strengthen the existing safety program and culture. 
  • Provides general safety support for all business areas within the branch.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

  • This position operates primarily in an office (or field office trailer) environment, and routinely utilizes standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, copiers, and printers. 
  • Work duties also regularly necessitate visits to/walkthroughs of local job sites, which means intermittent exposure to outside weather and conditions/hazards typically associated with a construction site. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

  • In performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, perform repetitive motion, and possess an appropriate degree of both visual acuity and manual dexterity. 
  • S/he may occasionally be required to climb, crouch, kneel, stoop, feel, and grasp. 
  • This is considered a medium work position, which means possible exertion of up to fifty (50) pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to thirty (30) pounds of force frequently, and/or up to ten (10) pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. 

TRAVEL: 

  • This position may require up to 40% travel, primarily to local job sites and offices. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Entry-level to 5 years of experience in construction-related building systems and safety. 
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local building codes and construction laws.
  • Completion of 1926 OSHA 30-Hour Training. 
  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse employee and client populations. 
  • Strong written, verbal, analytical, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and stay flexible while meeting deadlines and goals. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel in particular).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety or a related field. 
  • Completion of 1926 OSHA 500. 
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certification.
