Blair Fire Protection is a multifaceted, full-service fire protection contractor specializing in the design, installation, service, and inspection of a wide variety of fire protection systems, including automatic fire sprinkler systems, fire suppression systems, extinguishers, special hazard systems, and much more.

We are currently offering an excellent career opportunity for a Designer interested in joining our team! A successful candidate will ensure project success with exceptional designs and be knowledgeable in fire codes to assist the sales and field tech teams.

 Responsibilities:

  • Design a variety of fire sprinkler systems following applicable codes within the scope of the project using the M.E.P CAD AutoSprink software
  • Coordinate the fire sprinkler design using BIM modeling with the other building components such as structure, walls, ceilings, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical trades
  • Perform and review hydraulic calculations
  • Explore value-engineering ideas to meet the overall project budget
  • Conduct on-site field surveys at construction sites
  • Review project specifications and assure the correct materials are provided for jobs
  • Provide design support to the sprinkler fitters as they install the systems on projects
  • Compile final close-out documents including operations and maintenance manual and as-built drawings
  • Identify and estimate change orders
  • Balance the needs of general contractors, architects, and local authorities to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Expand knowledge and education concerning current codes and trends in the industry by attending training sessions and seminars
  • Assist with project management through organization and execution of projects
  • Perform estimating duties when needed

Requirements:

  • A Degree in Fire Protection Technologies or related field is most desired
  • Minimum, college-level coursework in Architecture, Engineering or Construction, with a year of industry experience, required
  • Computer knowledge, especially AutoCAD and MS Office programs are required
  • 3-D modeling experience in programs such as Navisworks, Revit, or similar program, desired
  • A degree in Fire Protection Technologies with NICET certification Level III or IV, is a plus
  • AutoSprink by M.E.P. CAD, BIM experience is a plus
  • Ability to manage schedule and deadlines and work in a fast-paced team environment

A successful applicant should have:

  • Desire to continue to learn more about the industry and codes through further certifications such as a Wisconsin
  • Designer Stamp, PE license, or NICET certification
  • Strong work effort, self-motivated, and ambition to exceed goals is required
