For over 110 years Childhaven has been a leader in serving children, families, and communities that have experienced trauma and adversity. In the past few years, we have been adding services and locations, becoming more community-based, and forming partnerships to increase our impact. In June 2020, Childhaven consolidated with Renton Area Youth and Family Services (RAYS) and Art with Heart, which further expanded our capacity to better serve more children, families, and communities. The Speech-Language Pathologist provides evaluative, therapeutic, and consultative services for children with neuromuscular disorders and/or developmental delays who are delayed in speech, language, pre-speech (feeding), pre-linguistic (cognitive), and/or hearing abilities.

Typical duties include the following. Other duties and special projects may be assigned.

  • Evaluate, assess, and provide speech therapy to children from birth through three years.
  • Collaborate with the Early Intervention team, Family Resources Coordinators (FRCs), and Childhaven program staff on interdisciplinary IFSPs, goal-setting, and case review.
  • Maintain documentation of case records and ensure compliance with Part C and other policies.
  • Provide direct, indirect, or consultative services to children with communication disorders.
  • Communicate with insurance providers, school districts, and other outside resources as needed.
  • Engage and empower parents in all individual and group sessions, providing training and support that allow them to meet the needs of their children.
  • Participating in the development of individualized goals for child and family.
  • Providing coaching and consultation for staff, parents and care providers.
  • Demonstrating a caring, nonjudgmental, equity-minded approach to working with every family.
  • Preparing reports and progress notes as required by Childhaven
  • Attend team meetings relating to each child’s programs and progress.
  • Schedule minimum of therapy hours as established by therapy department policy.
  • Attend regular staff and department meetings.
  • Continue to develop professional skills and knowledge (e.g., conferences, course work, review literature, participation in professional associations, interdepartmental observations, etc.)
  • Attend in-service programs. Share information from recently attended professional meetings with team.
  • Develop alternate/augmentative communication systems as needed.
  • Make and/or order equipment, assessment, or therapy materials.



  • Will be excited to work with a multidisciplinary team delivering trauma-informed early learning, early intervention, and infant mental health services to families with high needs.
  • Will believe in strength-based collaboration with children and families that improves their lives



  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology, from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience working with children aged 0-3 years
  • Experience with interacting with diverse populations
  • Strong teamwork skills and ability to demonstrate dependability and punctuality
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Pass Portable Background check through DSHS Background Check Central Unit.
  • Demonstrate skill in word processing and familiarity with MS Word and Excel
  • Possess valid Washington State driver’s license and valid automobile insurance.
  • Must have or obtain a SLP license in the State of Washington, and have Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC-SLP)
  • Pass tuberculosis tests
  • Current Pediatric/Adult CPR and First Aid certificates

  • We believe in fully transparent hiring practices. The salary range for Speech Language Pathologists is $62,400-87,360, dependent on experience.
