POSITION GOAL

In this role you will provide hearing, vision, and developmental screenings to children at various child care settings, WIC clinics, medical clinics and community events in Linn County.  You will also work with families to provide care coordination and work with child care centers to schedule screening appointments.  This program ensures early identification and intervention for children birth to five who are experiencing suspected hearing or vision concerns or developmental delays.    

Wage and Schedule

Monday-Friday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm (20 hours per week with flexibility); $17.81 - $19.50 based on qualifications

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Identifies and secures screening sites that meet the funder and FCHA requirements.
  2. Screens children birth through age 5, in a timely and efficient manner, at Family and Community Health Alliance Clinics and Outreach Sites using appropriate test procedures.
  3. Prepares and maintains screening records and documents screening results.
  4. Communicates screening results to parents, medical providers and community agency staff.
  5. Supports the referral process by applying established referral criteria and following up with AEA and medical professionals, as applicable.
  6. Monitoring children who do not qualify for early access services.
  7. Follows and maintains screening schedule that meets the needs of the Agency and Community Partners.
  8. Develops and maintains proper and adequate records and documentation in accordance with Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH)
  9. Assists with maintenance of screening materials and equipment
  10. Participates in projects committees or activities to support the mission of the program and agency
  11. Participates in staff development and professional growth activities
  12. Orders and maintains appropriate supplies for the program
  13. Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  1. High School Education or Equivalent
  2. Six months experience working with children or related experience
  3. Must possess basic knowledge of child health development and related community services
  4. Working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office and database software

  1. Ability to travel between sites served
  2. Strength and ability to lift and carry a maximum of 30 pounds for frequent transportation of screening materials and equipment
  3. Normal routine levels of activity related to bending, climbing, hearing, reaching, sitting, standing, vision and walking, and may also involve above-average levels or activity at times that can’t always be anticipated
  4. Sufficient manual dexterity to write and record results quickly and legibly for extended periods of time and operate office equipment needed to complete responsibilities including, but not limited to computers, telephones, copy machines, fax machines

 CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  1. Complete Child Abuse Reporter training within six (6) months of employment and update every five (5) years.
  2. Complete Bloodborne pathogen training within 1 year of employment and update every year.
  3. Valid driver’s license.
  4. Valid car insurance.
  5. Reliable transportation for on-the-job use.
  6. Satisfactory results attained on both a criminal background check and child abuse registry check.
