POSITION SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

The incumbent manages large-scale (and often several simultaneous) projects from preconstruction to closeout, by leading and developing a collaborative team of direct reports, who have the skills to successfully deliver meaningful results in their defined roles. S/he steps in to fulfill project manager duties when necessitated by operational demand and resource availability.

KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Delivers the annual assigned gross profit for a specific customer base, geography, or market sector. 
  • Collaborates with the Branch Manager to develop and meet the quarterly/annual earned revenue plan.
  • Advocates and reinforces the key values, safety culture, and required project standards of the Company.
  • Conducts monthly project reviews of all projects [within a defined monetary threshold] for any variance in individual project objectives, so forecasts can be adjusted accordingly.
  • Drives onsite teams to manage projects according to agreed upon contract terms without variances.
  • Approves Schedule of Values assembled by Project Managers with the goal of remaining cash positive.
  • Drives LEAN management practices in all operational aspects of the business.
  • Oversees the development of project execution plans and provides final approval before the commencement of field work. 
  • Provides feedback on sales strategy, budgets for project control, and staff resourcing, prior to proposals being submitted to prospective customers.
  • Ensures necessary talent and resources are immediately directed to problem projects, in order to minimize impact to the Company and its customer relationships.
  • Assumes responsibility for making all HR-related decisions (promotions, salary adjustments, corrective actions, etc.), training, developing, and evaluating direct reports.
  • Monitors all aspects of project execution via regular communication/collaboration with direct reports and other members of management.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This position operates primarily in a professional office environment, and routinely utilizes standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, copiers, and filing cabinets. 
  • Work tasks may occasionally necessitate travel to local job sites, which means intermittent exposure to outside weather and conditions typically associated with a construction site.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • In performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to talk, walk, sit, stand, hear, and possess an appropriate degree of both visual acuity and manual dexterity.
  • S/he may occasionally be required to balance, climb, reach, and/or stoop. 
  • This is considered a sedentary work position, which means possible exertion up to ten (10) pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

TRAVEL:

  • This position may require up to 10% travel. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (in a construction-related field) or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of experience within the mechanical HVAC industry.
  • 5+ years of successful management experience.
  • Documented completion of OSHA’s 30-hour Construction Training Course.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage in effective collaboration and communication (both written and verbal).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Advanced education or project management certification preferred.
