The primary responsibilities of the Design Engineer/Technician are to perform activities related to the design of renewable energy, battery storage, commercial development, and military projects and serve as a member of an integrated design team, responsible for coordinating structural design alongside other disciplines to meet project schedules and deliverables.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Provide construction document production support.
- Coordinate with various design team disciplines including civil engineers, structural engineers and surveyors.
- Utilize AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D to create construction documents and perform quantity takeoffs. Construction documents will include site layouts, shallow foundations, deep foundation systems, framing plans, pile plan drawings, connection details, project specific details etc.
- Maintain awareness and knowledge of EVS design/CAD standards and provide input for improvement.
- Take a lead role in Quality control (QC) process.
- Creating drawings to be used in final construction plans
- Reviewing and revising construction models
- Produce samples and mock-ups of structures using different drafting methods
- Produces organized structural plans and details that support lead discipline systems.
- Assist lead structural engineer in development and coordination of structural support scope.
- Models or drafts design into completed working details and drawings through interpretation of the design and application of design fundamentals.
- Develop understanding of multifaceted client to better solve unique conditions.
- Apply creative problem-solving skills to see beyond standard answers.
- Consults with supervisor to screen assignments for unusual or difficult problems and selects appropriate methods and techniques to apply.
- Exercises judgment for some aspects of design but receives supervision and direct input on new aspects of assignment.
- Communicates with supervisor concerning progress or problems in an assigned task.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associates or bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering technology or equivalent experience.
- At least 3 years of experience in civil or structural design
- Must have proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Revit experience is a plus
- Microsoft Office software
- Strong problem-solving skills and flexibility in fast-paced environment.
- Ability to provide clear direction and expectations to designers and contractors.
- Working knowledge and ability to read construction drawings and specifications.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
- Must be a supportive team member, able to work in a collaborative environment.
- Must be self-motivated with an ability to balance multiple projects under tight deadline
