Geosyntec is seeking an experienced Senior Designer - AutoCAD Civil 3D to support project needs in the Richmond, Virginia office. The selected candidate will apply engineering fundamentals and perform computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) for a variety of civil and geotechnical engineering design projects. We are seeking a motivated individual who can conceive and plan design documents and construction plans; select and recommend design procedures; and prepare preliminary designs for engineers.  You will work independently to coordinate efforts on design projects, develop grading plans, selections and profiles, and engineering details for civil and environmental engineering projects, including landfills, isurface impoundments, ndustrial sites and utilities. Projects may also include mechanical drawing systems and opportunities to contribute from the conceptual design stage through construction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understand and visualize overall engineering concepts and translate to design drawing of construction and material specifications;
  • Analyze sketches, notes and other input material to determine best approach to complete drawing set;
  • Manage production of drawing set from creation, markup and modification based on overall design;
  • Develop process and instrumentation drawings;
  • Model complicated grading plans with multiple surfaces;
  • Develop multiple grading options to achieve the same engineering goals;
  • Assist in the design and drafting of menu standards and hardcopy file management and maintenance, and document management;
  • Proofread CAD drawings for accuracy, format, and grammar; anticipating necessary drawing edits, callouts, details, etc. and making those edits to complete a drawing; 
  • Maintain effective communication with Project Engineers and assist the project teams by providing the needed information for construction; 
  • Training others on Autodesk Plant 3d Software;
  • Assist in the training, mentoring, and development of CAD Technicians and Designers and act as resource for design questions and problem-solving Autodesk Civil 3D software related issues; and
  • Supervise CAD Technicians and Designers in the set up and management of design tasks and drawings and detail preparation; and review completed work products to ensure quality and accuracy.

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE

  • Associate’s degree from accredited university in Drafting. (required)
  • Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D Certified Professional examination within the last three years. (preferred)

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 10 years of related experience in a professional mechanical and electrical engineering setting; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the responsibilities of the position.  (required)
  • Advanced knowledge of civil engineer concepts including Plan Set organization, topographical survey data, drawing scales, survey coordinate systems, and can perform complex grading tasks and volume calculations. (required)
  • Proficiency in the use of AutoCAD Civil 3D (release 2018 or above). (required)
  • Experience with 3D coordination and clash detection using Navisworks. (required)
  • Experience generating piping/part shop drawings with Bill of Materials. (required)
  • Experience assisting in BIM Coordination. (preferred)
  • Strong reasoning, mathematical, and geometrical skills. (required)
  • Understanding of Microsoft Office applications, including Windows, Outlook, Word, and Excel. (required)
  • Experience with ArcGIS and MicroStation. (preferred)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
