Job Role

ProgenyHealth is seeking a talented and creative Senior Data Engineer to join our software development team. This position is responsible for creating, testing, ensuring the quality of and maintaining a product or product line from a data perspective.

The Senior Data Engineer will perform complex code modification, testing and debugging tasks, as well as provide high level analysis related to database design and development.

Database Development and Architecture Responsibilities Include:

  • Responsible for database design and documentation, including normalization, schema creation, diagram creation.
  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements.
  • Focus on transactional database programming for high-volume data sets in a way that ensures clean data is consistently collected, while preventing database locks and performance issues.
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
  • Work with developers and stakeholders to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data development and infrastructure needs.
  • Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and Azure ‘big data’ technologies.
  • Work with developers and stakeholders to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data development and infrastructure needs.
  • Keep our data separated and secure across national boundaries through multiple data centers and Azure regions.
  • Run performance profiling tools to identify and then remediate inefficient code causing bottlenecks.
  • Review TSQL.
  • Establish database backup/restore procedures.
  • Assist in formalizing BCDR policies, procedures and activities for the organization.
  • Support data governance activities for the organization.
  • Granting database permissions as needed.
  • Create/maintain data dictionaries.
  • Ability to Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture.
  • Work collaboratively to write high quality, testable code that meets the Definition of Done:
    • Strive to meet team commitments.
    • Participate in design and code reviews with other engineers.
  • Actively support and contribute to end of iteration demos.
  • Responsible for assigned integration, testing and deployment tasks.
  • Work with product management to scope and estimate product enhancements.

 Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in a SQL Developer or Data Engineer role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems or another quantitative field.
  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.
  • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets.
  • A successful history of manipulating, processing and extracting value from large, disconnected datasets.
  • Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and highly scalable ‘big data’ data stores.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in an agile environment.
  • Experience with the following tools:
    • SQL Server, SSIS, SQL Profiler, Tableau or PowerBI and ASP.NET is a plus
    • Relational SQL and NoSQL databases
    • Azure cloud services including Managed Instance Infrastructure
