POSITION SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

The incumbent supports the branch sales effort by attending pre-bid and pre-award meetings, preparing competitive cost estimates, reviewing documents, tracking opportunities, developing bids and estimate strategies, following up on field feedback and parametric costs, and assisting project management in estimate and unit labor breakdown.

KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reviews documents to define scope, phases, and alternates, identify potential risks and value engineering opportunities, and resolve incomplete documents, as required by the estimate strategy. 
  • Employs takeoff and estimating skills in pipefitting, plumbing, and sheet metal trades to quantify projects.
  • Applies parametric data to check pricing and confirm budgets.
  • Performs standard adjustments to template labor in all three trades (including back-up).
  • Prepares estimates for various markets in which the Company does business.
  • Identifies potential buy-out and amounts of significant equipment packages and subcontracts.
  • Provides timely re-estimates of redesigned or value engineered projects.
  • Maintains appropriate industry contacts to stay current with market pricing and trends.
  • Synthesizes relevant information to create purchasing breakdowns, unit labor breakdowns, and purchase order control sheets for use by key stakeholders.
  • Facilitates a seamless hand-off of successful bids to designated project managers.
  • Obtains and evaluates productivity feedback from project management, foreman, and customers.
  • Identifies and reports leads on new projects and potential new business.  
  • Executes a variety of support tasks, as directed, in furtherance of the overall sales and estimating strategy.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This position operates primarily in a professional office environment, and routinely utilizes standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, copiers, and filing cabinets. 
  • Work tasks may occasionally necessitate travel to local job sites, which means intermittent exposure to the conditions typically associated with a construction site.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • In performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, perform repetitive motion, and possess an appropriate degree of both visual acuity and manual dexterity. 
  • This is considered a sedentary work position, which means possible exertion up to ten (10) pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

TRAVEL:

  • This position may require up to 5% local travel, primarily to client/branch offices and local job sites. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of industry-specific experience. 
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel in particular).
  • Advanced organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Capacity to leverage communication/interpersonal skills to develop and enhance business relationships.
  • Aptitude for producing meaningful results in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
