Network Support Technician II
Summary:
This position is responsible for providing network, software, and end user computer support at the Alaska SeaLife Center.
Education/Training Requirements:
High school diploma or GED or Computer Science degree and minimum of five years’ experience with PC hardware and software troubleshooting and repair including technical support and hardware/software support to LAN/WAN users or the equivalent. One workstation and one server level certification from Microsoft, or Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer or current, active participation in training programs which will lead to these certifications.
The specific skills and abilities of each employee in this position and the needs of the department will dictate which of the primary responsibilities are performed by each individual employee.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Configures and troubleshoots desktop and laptop computers, IP camera systems, internal phone system, and smart phones.
- Provides support for PC software (such as MSOffice programs) and general desktop/laptop operation.
- Provides support for network systems (such as MS Networking, Windows Server TCP/IP, DHCP and cloud-based services such as Google Workspace), and network reconfigurations.
- Assists the HR department with network user profiles and security maintenance – adding and deleting users from network, phone, and email system.
- Maintains software and hardware inventory library, including licensing issues.
- Assists in the development and compliance of various computer-related policies and procedures.
- Monitors and updates for virus protection.
- Monitors network systems: backup, email, disk space, and network performance.
- Develops and provides training to staff.
- Works with consulting firms to identify and resolve issues.
- Provides onsite and telephone support for end user issues such as email and network access, including after hours response as required in emergency situations.
- Supports and troubleshoots network and standalone printers.
- Supports and troubleshoots VPN and Webmail.
- Has experience or training in firewall configuration
- Has experience or training in VLAN configuration and switch maintenance and configuration.
- Has experience or training in wireless router and access point maintenance and configuration.
- Provides recommendations for various software and hardware purchases.
- Tracks I.T. orders to completion.
- Provides support, maintenance, and configuration for internal telephone system.
- Fosters good relations with visitors, volunteers, community leaders, contractors, and fellow staff members by promoting positive attitudes, good will, cooperation, and providing high standards of service.
- Complies with all Alaska SeaLife Center values, policies, procedures, and programs.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Additional Skills and Abilities:
Extensive working knowledge of desktop/laptop PC installation, configuration, and problem resolution; proficiency in the configuration of desktop, laptop, and tablets: Windows 10, MS Networking; MS Office; NIC, modem, virus protection, network administration, virtual server, TCP/IP, and DHCP.
Ability to prioritize tasks, work independently and as part of a team, work with outside networking consultants, and manage time under pressure. Ability to speak and write effectively and be comfortable meeting new people and interfacing with diverse interests.
