Job Description

GEI is seeking respected professionals who aspire to have a positive impact on GEI’s geotechnical design team and are interested in working collaboratively with a talented team of design, management, and technical leaders. GEI will provide a unique opportunity to collaborate across multiple practices to successfully deliver geotechnical design/engineering solutions for our clients in the Ontario Market. 

The Canadian operation of GEI is expanding in the Ontario market and GEI is looking for a Junior Geotechnical Engineer to join our existing technical team working on projects across Ontario. This position is based in GEI’s office in Barrie, Ontario, and includes regular full-time work (40 hours per week).

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform geotechnical and geological engineering tasks including field investigations; logging of soil and rock; performance of geotechnical in-situ tests; coordination of laboratory testing; installation and monitoring of geotechnical instrumentation; site characterization, engineering analyses (foundation, earthwork, slope stability, seepage, etc.), calculations; and design of varied infrastructure projects under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Perform engineering analyses, prepare technical memos, reports, construction specifications and other written documentation. 
  • Prepare design drawings using computer aided design and drafting equipment.
  • Prepare cost estimates, schedules and construction documents, monitor construction activities in the field. 
  • Oversight of contractors (drillers, earth work, laboratory vendors, etc.) 
  • Support environmental projects such as Phase One & Two Environmental Site Assessments and Hydrogeological Studies on an as-needed basis
  • Ability to spend time in the field, depending on experience level/project specifics.

Qualifications

  • B.S./M.S. degree in Civil Engineering with Geotechnical emphasis or related field.
  • Three (3) to six (6) years of experience. P. Eng. certification required (or will receive within 6 months).
  • Excellent communication, time management and organizational skills required. Ability to perform field investigation activities and manage contractors and field crews.
  • Strong fundamental knowledge of geologic and/or geotechnical engineering principles, soil and rock mechanics, and engineering design.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent computer skills with technical analysis software, MS Office, etc.
  • Valid driver’s license with access to a personal vehicle.
