This position is responsible for assisting with operation, maintenance and repair of the life support, building, and mechanical systems at the Alaska SeaLife Center.

Education/Training Requirements:

High school diploma or GED with training or certification as an aquatic life support technician, building controls technician, electrician, or other recognized trade or the equivalent. 

 Essential Duties:

  1. Follows scheduled routine for LSS rounds and mechanical checks. 
  1. Maintains familiarity with all aspects of LSS including electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems. 
  1. Visually monitors water quality in habitats and aquarium systems. 
  1. Assists with maintenance of animal life support systems (LSS). 
  1. Demonstrates an excellent working knowledge of the safe and proper use of hand tools, power tools and test equipment used in daily activities. 
  1. Assists in the fabrication and repair of exhibits. 
  1. Assists with the maintenance, repair and overhaul of major plant equipment. 
  1. Must be fully capable of reading technical drawings, technical specification and written repair/maintenance procedures with minimum supervision. 
  1. Works a rotating shift, an on-call schedule, and/or overtime as needed. 
  1. Supports the maintenance of the grounds, roof, sidewalks, and parking in safe and clean condition. 
  1. Works with other relevant departments to ensure that exhibit galleries are always clean, and well maintained. 
  1. Works with the entire operations team to ensure that all outside trafficable areas are safe and free from snow and ice. Shovels snow and dispenses ice melt and/or grit as required. 
  1. With supervisor’s approval, assists other Departments with mechanical tasks.
  2. Keeps proper records in accordance with ASLC policies and permits. 
  1. Maintains familiarity with SDS system, hazardous communications, and emergency response. 
  1. Maintains a valid driver’s license. 
  1. Fosters good relations with visitors, volunteers, community leaders, contractors, and fellow staff members by promoting positive attitudes, good will, cooperation, and providing high standards of service. 
  1. Complies with all policies, procedures, and programs, demonstrating commitment to values and mission of the Alaska SeaLife Center. 

Other Duties:

    19. May be asked to assist with operation of pickup based snow plow. 

  1. Performs other related duties as assigned. 

Other Skills and Abilities:

Ability to be organized and self-motivated.
