SEATTLE REP is seeking a resourceful and highly talented Electrician/Swing Technician to join the stage crew. The Electrician/Swing Tech is a vital member of the stage crew in the Bagley Wright Theater and provides essential support for realizing our artistic visions in every production.

ABOUT THE POSITION

In collaboration with the Master Electrician and other members of the stage crew and production staff, the Electrician/Swing Technician is responsible for maintenance and installation of all productions in the Bagley Wright Theater, dealing primarily with lighting and electrics work. The Electrician/Swing Technician may also provide additional support to or fill in for the other positions on the stage crew, potentially alternating positions for all work and show calls in the Bagley Wright Theater.

 

Typical duties include:

Participate in Show Changeovers

  • Hang and focus theatrical lighting, projections, and audio equipment
  • Install and strike theatrical booms, ladders, trusses, and scenery

Assist the Master Electrician in Facilitating the Lighting and Electrical Needs of the Theater

  • Read and interpret lighting paperwork and assist planning of hang and focus
  • Facilitate adjustments and changes as required during tech rehearsals and work calls

Participate in Maintenance of Theatrical Equipment and Spaces

  • Maintain and repair lighting equipment on a regular basis and as necessary
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment in all theatrical spaces

Act as Fill-In Lead or Operator for All Stage Crew Positions

  • Perform run-crew duties in non-standard roles as needed for productions (e.g. followspot, A2, video tech)
  • Cover absences of other technicians during the run of a show
  • Occasionally act in all above capacities and positions as part of the Leo K. Stage Crew

Serve as an essential contributor to Seattle Rep’s culture and success

Minimum qualifications

  • 5 years of experience working as a performance stage crew member or in a similar position on a professional level
  • Advanced knowledge of stage lighting systems
  • Ability to work for extended times reaching overhead, kneeling, bending, and lifting
  • Comfort working at heights from ladders, personnel lifts, bosun chair, or harness
  • Working knowledge of rigging, audio, video, and automation systems
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • A demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team
  • Commitment to racial equity and social justice

Desired qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in theatre with a production emphasis
