Geosyntec is growing in the San Francisco Bay area and we are looking for an Entry-Level Environmental Scientist or Engineer for our Oakland or Walnut Creek offices, who wants to expand on their academic knowledge to support our environmental due diligence and regulatory compliance projects. The selected candidate will have technical responsibility for scoping, performing, managing and delivering multiple concurrent project assignments. The selected candidate will also be encouraged to help broaden our reputation via publishing and visibility at prominent industry conferences. They will join a team of experienced environmental engineers and geologists working on a number of complex environmental projects involving due diligence, contaminated site characterization, brownfield redevelopment, and compliance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supporting projects involving environmental due diligence with reviewing historical documents and regulatory data evaluation, field reconnaissance, sampling of environmental media, and preparing technical reports such as ASTM-compliant Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments;
  • Providing limited environmental compliance services, such as evaluating compliance with hazardous substance and hazardous waste management permits and requirements, hazardous materials business plans, and spill prevention plans;
  • Supporting site characterization and remediation projects;
  • Providing litigation support services, including related to hazardous waste and material management;
  • Preparing technical reports, letters, memoranda, and proposals; and
  • Developing task, project, and client management skills.

Based on your current level of experience, you may be asked to take on task-level or project management responsibilities, along with business development, and staff management and mentoring tasks.

  • Training: This position requires OSHA/MSHA health and safety, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. We also offer professional development opportunities including technical conferences, in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our professionals to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants.
  • Fieldwork: Up to 50%
  • Overnight travel: Up to 20%

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental studies, earth science (geology or hydrology), environmental, civil, or chemical engineering. (required)

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience in environmental consulting. (preferred)
  • Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements or willingness to learn regarding environmental compliance, investigations, and clean up. (preferred)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products.  (required) 
  • Experience with GIS and databases. (preferred)
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, work independently, handle multiple project assignments, meet strict deadlines, and travel to client facilities as needed. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
