SEATTLE REP is seeking a friendly and supportive Bagley Wright Union Usher to join the Front of House.  Bagley Wright Union Ushers assist the House Manager(s) and other customer service staff with providing comfort, service, safety and direction for Seattle Rep patrons at performances.  Ushers maintain the image of excellence that that is the hallmark of the theatre, including effective implementation of customer service initiatives, and going the extra mile to make sure that the patrons have an enjoyable experience and desire to return to the theatre in the future.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Our Union Ushers work as a team at each Bagley performance in the season to create a safe and hospitable environment for our theatre patrons. Scanning tickets, giving directions, assisting patrons in finding their seats, handing out programs and ensuring a safe evacuation in an emergency are all basic functions of the job.

Typical duties include: 

Provide great service to Seattle Rep Patrons

  • Welcome theatre patrons, hand out programs and show patrons to their seats
  • Scan tickets and direct patrons to seats at front door
  • Answer patron questions and address patron concerns as they arise
  • Ensure patrons are in their appropriate seats at curtain time
  • Keep the lobby and Bagley Wright Theatre a welcoming place through good customer service and a courteous attitude towards theatre patrons and staff members
  • Handle minor patron difficulties and concerns, and refer appropriate issues to House Manager on duty
  • Work with House Manager to resolve issues that arise over the course of a shift in an effort to keep the theatre running smoothly
  • Remain at assigned door throughout entire assigned shift
  • Knowledge of current productions and able and willing to respond to patrons’ questions

Work Environment and Patron Safety

  • Knowledge of evacuation and emergency procedures for the Bagley Wright Theatre and the ability to direct patron evacuation if an evacuation or emergency situation arises
  • Clean assigned door area and check assigned section of house to ensure that is it clean
  • Monitor patrons’ entry into the theatre and their behavior in the theatre during performances
  • Attend and participate in usher meetings and attend annual orientation meeting
  • Knowledge of and compliance with policies outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement and current Bagley Wright Usher Handbook, including policies regarding scheduling procedures, availability and availability due dates, proper work attire, call times, etc.

 

Minimum qualifications

  • Ability and willingness to join Teamsters Local Union #117
  • Able to work a flexible and irregular work schedule, primarily evening and weekend hours
  • A genuine interest in theater and working with the public
  • Commitment to or knowledge of racial equity and social justice
  • Able to stand for several hours at a time and to perform occasional physical labor, including lifting program boxes, using stairs and moving lightweight chairs

Desired qualifications

  • Minimum one year customer service experience
  • Strong diplomacy, interpersonal and teamwork skills, including capacity and willingness to go above and beyond outlined duties when a situation calls for it
