The Safety Intern will serve a vital role to help maintain the Safety culture within our organization. The primary role is to serve as a resource to help employee’s set their work up safely and to identify and recognize unsafe behaviors and conditions & implement corrective actions and solutions to prevent re-occurrence.
 
Responsibilities
·        Visit job sites to conduct safety compliance observations
·        Serve as a resource to coach & educate employees to reinforce good behaviors
·        Assist in developing & conducting Job Hazard Analysis
·        Develop & administer project specific health & safety programs (HASP)
·        Make recommendations/corrective actions to ensure compliance with OSHA, company and customer safety policies
·        Communicate hazards with employees, customers, project management and Assistant Risk Manager     
·        Assist with root cause investigations
·        Perform field safety compliance audits while visiting job sites, when needed
 
Required Skills and Abilities
 
·        Must have a valid auto driver’s license
·        Excellent verbal and written communication skills
·        Attention to detail, highly organized, self-starter with ability to prioritize tasks and able to work in a fast-paced environment
·        Strong interpersonal and active listening skills
·        Strong critical thinking, problem solving and analytical skills
·        Ability to handle sensitive information with high level of confidentiality
·        Basic computer skills
·        Proficient with MS Office Suite and related program software
·        Knowledge of heavy equipment operations is a plus
 
Education and Experience
 
·        Pursuing a safety-oriented, engineering or construction management degree
·        Experience working in Civil construction field is a plus
 
Physical Demands
 
·        Ability to work in field and office environment
·        Constantly operates computer and other office equipment
·        Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions
·        Occasional travel to corporate office and other job sites
·        Frequently stands and walks
·        Ability to lift up to 25lbs
